Turns out there is a system-wide computer outage at Charlotte International Airport preventing any flights from leaving. So this is fun.

On Twitter, passengers stuck in line at JFK, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, and others vented … mostly at their airlines, who pointed it out it wasn’t their fault.  Read more…

Air New Zealand’s new safety briefing is a music video set to ‘It’s Tricky’

TwitterFacebook

Air New Zealand has taken people to Middle Earth and done a Men In Black throwback in its safety videos, setting itself apart from other, boring pre-flight briefings.

The airline’s latest edition is dubbed “It’s Kiwi,” a remake of Run-DMC’s classic track “It’s Tricky” featuring Deadpool 2 actor Julian Dennison, local musicians, as well as talent from 30 community groups.

It’s the 18th safety video the airline has ever produced, and aims to celebrate Kiwi culture and the country’s diversity. Read more…

Airline gives us a good reason to actually use AR

TwitterFacebook

Finally, here’s some augmented reality that’s somewhat useful.

Last month, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines released a hand bag check to see what you can bring onto the plane — before you lug your stuff to the airport.

Using the KLM app, you can check the dimensions of your baggage to see if it’s the correct size for carry-on or for checking. You open the app, load up the AR bag-checker, and a virtual suitcase appears that you can scan over your actual piece of luggage to see if it fits within the blue KLM suitcase.

Starting Tuesday, the same mixed-reality bag check is also available on the Messenger app, making this maybe the only situation in which you’d want to use Messenger to talk to a brand. Read more…

Cathay Pacific made a pretty hilarious typo on its own plane

TwitterFacebook

Everyone’s made a typo in their life, including international airlines.

Cathay Pacific gained plenty of internet attention after a new paint job on one of its planes resulted in the misspelling of the airline’s name.

Someone unfortunately forgot to include the “F” in the name, leaving it to be read as “Cathay Paciic.”

According to the South China Morning Post, the error was first spotted on the Hong Kong Aviation Discussion Board. At least Cathay Pacific found it funny too.

Oops this special livery won’t last long! She’s going back to the shop!
