Woman stuck in airport fights terminal boredom by making a hilarious dance video

TwitterFacebook

We’ve all been there — a missed flight or delay leads to hours of mind-numbing boredom in the terminal — unless overpriced food and stale air is your idea of a good time.

But Twitter user @katiemgould showed that with just a phone and some dancing feet, any flight delay can turn into a par-tay

After missing her flight and getting stuck in an Atlanta airport for 4 hours, she decided to kick up her shoes to the iconic hit, “You Make My Dreams,” by Hall & Oates.

She even included her cat, Bowie, in the hilarious shuffle. According to Twitter, he is her “favorite travel buddy” and a “precious baby angel boy”.  Read more…

The Google Assistant can now alert you of potential flight delays

If you’re an experienced traveler, you know that plenty of your delays are due to your plane being stuck somewhere else or because the weather at your local or arrival airport isn’t ideal (I’m looking at you, fogged-in SFO in the morning). So you also know to check on your incoming flight, even when the […]

This ‘Elf on the Shelf’ challenge might just make holiday travel bearable

TwitterFacebook

The Elf on the Shelf is taking to the skies.

In a festive move, the Vancouver airport has created an Elf on the Shelf-inspired photoshop challenge. On Monday, they shared a photo of Lil Wayne atop a plane, with the caption, “You’ve heard of Elf on the Shelf, now get ready for…”

— Vancouver Airport (@yvrairport) December 10, 2018

Since then, multiple airports (and airport adjacent companies) have been replying to the tweet with their own heavily doctored photos, using the same simple rhyme scheme. It’s a delightful variation on the Elf on a Shelf rhyming meme that surfaced last year, and the results are a reminder that the internet is actually quite good — sometimes. Read more…

Amazon is targeting airports for its next cashier-free Go store expansion, report says

Amazon’s checkout-free Go stores are really starting to take off.

The online retail giant has been in contact with several major U.S. airports to discuss opening new cashier-less Amazon Go locations, according to public records.

Both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is the second-busiest airport in the country, and San Jose International Airport (SJC) are locations Amazon expressed interest in, according to a Reuters report

One airport, Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW), reportedly reached out to Amazon first, expressing interest in bringing the e-commerce giant’s brick-and-mortar convenience store to its location. Read more…

Diabolical people are putting fake power outlet stickers on walls

TwitterFacebook

Searching for an open power outlet in an airport is often a frustrating experience.

It’s certainly not helped by what seems to be a raft of pranksters who are putting stickers of fake power outlets onto walls, bins, and any highly visible surface.

This diabolical feat has been captured by people on Twitter, who’ve brandished an avowed aim to make enemies of the people who are behind these stickers from hell.

Whoever put up this fake sticker of an open outlet at the airport, you are now my enemy for lifepic.twitter.com/TYEJKmY6Zg

This ridiculously cute robot will carry your luggage at the airport

TwitterFacebook

We’ve all overpacked before a flight, which means we’ve all had to haul that bulging suitcase through the airport while attempting to find our gate.

But if KLM Royal Dutch Airways has its way, you’ll be able to give those weary arms a break — all thanks to robotics. Meet Care-E, the airline’s friendly luggage trolley prototype.

Image: KLM

The Care-E is a self-driving trolley packed with autonomous technology and artificial intelligence. The airline will be conducting two-day trials at both JFK and SFO this summer.

The airline was planning to demo the Care-E at an event in Brooklyn today, but cancelled the event at the last minute (about 12 hours before it was set to take place). While it does increase our skepticism about whether this prototype works, we welcome the chance to see it in action later this summer.  Read more…

Cute rabbit inadvertently drawn into a bomb scare at airport

TwitterFacebook

In this day and age, you know you’re not meant to leave your baggage unattended in airports. Especially if there’s a cute rabbit inside.

The bomb squad of the Australian Federal Police was called to Adelaide Airport on Wednesday after a pink Lorna Jane bag was left unattended in a female toilet.

But instead of holding dangerous items, the bag contained a young male dwarf rabbit wearing a red harness and no identification. Police called in rescue officers from the RSPCA, who took in the animal for safety.

“This is the first job of this kind that I’ve come across in my 26 years of service with RSPCA,” rescue officer Van Loenen said in a statement online. Read more…

Elon Musk’s Boring Company will build a high-speed train to Chicago airport

TwitterFacebook

You could take the regular 40-minute train from one of the busiest airports in the world, or how about a 12-minute high-speed trip?

The Boring Company, headed by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, has won a bid to build a high-speed train from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to downtown, reports the Chicago Sun Times.

According to the Times, rides would cost $20-25 for a 12-minute trip from the airport’s new terminals to the Block 37 super-station downtown. This trip usually takes approximately 30-40 minutes, whether by train via Chicago’s Blue Line for around $5, or by cab, Uber or Lyft. Read more…

Monkey’s wild day at the airport has a happy ending

TwitterFacebook

Anarchy. Rebellion. High drama.

It was all happening at San Antonio International Airport, where a crafty, incredibly frightened rhesus macaque was on the loose after escaping from its transport crate on Monday afternoon.

According to local CNN affiliate KSAT, the primate fugitive, identified as Dawkins, was in transit after an American Airlines flight from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, via Chicago.

Dawkins’ destination? The Born Free USA sanctuary in La Salle County, Texas, which claims to be one of the country’s largest primate sanctuaries.  Read more…
