‘American Gods’ Season 2 can’t keep the faith

After a year off the air and a significant amount of behind-the-scenes struggle, American Gods has returned with its second season. That in itself is good news. 

In today’s cancelation-happy television environment, it’s rare that a show as beautifully odd and daring as American Gods’ first season would survive losing two showrunners, two leading actors, and constant, well-publicized rewrites. So really, good on American Gods for making it to Season 2. 

Unfortunately, if the three episodes provided for review are anything to go on, the bulk of the show’s charm and magic was lost at some point in 2018. What remains is a tawdry and tedious shadow (pun not intended) of American Gods Season 1.  Read more…

‘American Gods’ Season 2 trailer sets up a war of godly proportions

The war for the hearts and minds of America is already on in the trailer for American Gods Season 2, which gives fans and acolytes alike a look at what’s coming up for the show’s gods, heroes, and villains. 

Those who’ve read Neil Gaiman’s book will recognize a few iconic moments from the text — that carousel scene looks amazingly trippy — but everyone can get hype for a new season bringing Shadow closer to understanding the holy world, and war, he’s caught up in.
