The Good

Apple Music on Echo speakers! • Songs can be set as alarms

The Bad

Only works on Amazon’s own Echo speakers (for now) • Alexa can’t favorite songs • Requires paid Apple Music subscription

The Bottom Line

Turns out Apple Music controlled with Alexa on Amazon Echo speakers works pretty well, and it makes Apple’s HomePod look overpriced.

Apple will never admit it, but the arrival of Apple Music on Amazon’s Echo speakers is an obvious admission that HomePod isn’t getting the job done. Read more…

Remember Apple Music Connect? Well, Apple’s killing it.

TwitterFacebook

For Apple, music and social just don’t mix.

According to 9to5Mac, the company is quietly killing the social component of its Apple Music service, Connect.

Apple has reportedly been sending artists on Apple Music a notice saying they won’t be able to post to Connect anymore.

“Today we’re streamlining music discovery by removing Connect posts from Artist Pages and For You. This means you’ll no longer be able to post to Connect as of December 13, 2018, but all previously uploaded content will still be searchable until May 24, 2019,” the notice said.  Read more…

China’s Tencent Music raises $1.1 billion in downsized US IPO

Tencent Music, China’s largest streaming company, has raised $1.1 billion in a U.S. IPO after it priced its shares at $13 a piece ahead of a listing on the Nasdaq. That makes it one of the largest tech listings of the year, but the pricing is at the bottom end of its $13-$15 range indicating […]

JioSaavn becomes India’s answer to Spotify and Apple Music

India finally has its answer to Spotify after Reliance Jio merged its music service with Saavn, the startup it acquired earlier this year. The deal itself isn’t new — it was announced back in March — but it has reached its logical conclusion after two apps were merged to create a single entity, JioSaavn, which is […]

Apple Music is getting native Android tablet support

Bringing Apple Music to Android tablets probably wasn’t Apple’s biggest priority, but three years after launching support for Android phones, the bigger screens are getting some love. The update, first spotted by 9to5mac, is only available to Google Group beta testers for now, but should soon be rolling out widely when the 2.7 update goes […]

Apple Music is coming to the Amazon Echo

Starting mid-December, Amazon Echo devices will be able to stream songs from Apple Music. A bit of a surprise, perhaps, given that Apple’s been a competitor in the space since launching the HomePod back in 2017. Amazon’s had its own music service for some time as well, but the company appears to have given up […]

Get Beats Powerbeats3 headphones on sale for 50% off, plus 3 free months of Apple Music at Best Buy

TwitterFacebook

“Missing out” on Cyber Monday is barely even a thing anymore — retailers are keeping those rare deals up for days or even the whole week afterward, because they know people will still hop on it.

Our favorite post Cyber Monday deal right now comes from Best Buy: Get the Beats Powerbeats 3 earbuds for $99.95 instead of $199.95. Yup, that’s literally half off, and they’ll throw in three free months of Apple Music, too.

Beats is one of the brands giving Bose a run for its money when it comes to headphones. Seeing them on sale for anything more than 20% off feels like a glitch in the simulation. Beats are especially clutch for iPhone users as they’re equipped with Apple’s W1 chip, helping your iPhone automatically connect to your headphones, improve headphone battery life (12 hours here), and improved Bluetooth performance.
