For Apple, this year’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day is all about education

Following Apple’s education event in Chicago in March, I wrote about what the company’s announcements might mean for accessibility. After sitting in the audience covering the event, the big takeaway I had was Apple could “make serious inroads in furthering *special* education as well.” As I wrote, despite how well-designed the Classroom and Schoolwork apps seemingly are, Apple should do more to tailor their new tools to better serve students and educators in special education settings. After all, accessibility and special education are inextricably tied. It turns out, Apple has, unsurprisingly, considered this.

In the battle royal to become the last dock-less scooter startup standing (and un-besmirched by poop), Bird has inked what it is characterizing as exclusive deals with Ninebot (the parent company of Segway) and Xiaomi (yes, that Xiaomi), for rights to their supply of […]

Let the good vibes roll: Mashable House at SXSW 2018

TwitterFacebook

During SXSW, thousands of creatives and techies alike descend onto Austin, Texas in search of the best way to induce FOMO in their friends back at home. In 2018, this meant saying they were in the room when Elon Musk crashed the Westworld panel. Or perhaps it was sharing out that GIF of Elon Musk doing, whatever it is he was doing…

Why ride-hailing app Fasten couldn’t make it against the big players

TwitterFacebook

What a difference a year makes, especially for up and coming ride-hailing app Fasten.

Last year the tech, media, and music conference South by Southwest was a ride-hailing nightmare, with Uber and Lyft no longer operating in Austin, Texas, over issues with fingerprint background check requirements.

This gave smaller wannabe ride apps the perfect opportunity to show off different platforms and demonstrate what rides could be like in a Uber-less world. Fasten — which started in Boston in 2015 — swooped into the Austin opening.
