Revisiting the superhero films of the ’90s

TwitterFacebook

We are currently living in the golden age of superhero movies. Every few months, a new one arrives in theaters and dominates the zeitgeist for a few weeks before hype (or dread) starts to build for the next film.

Captain Marvel, the latest movie in Marvel’s decade-long streak, is the first in the modern era to take us back into the 1990s, a time before caped crusaders took up such a sizable chunk of the movie and television market.

In anticipation of seeing Carol Danvers tear shit up at the end of the 20th century, I went back and revisited a whole bunch of superhero movies from the ‘90s to examine what the world of superheroes looked like before Marvel and DC built up their own interconnected film dynasties. Read more…

Turns out Jon Hamm would be totally up for playing Batman

TwitterFacebook

There have been been rumours and speculation about Ben Affleck stepping down as Batman for a long time now — and with the recent reports that Henry Cavill may also be on his way out as Superman, they’ve been given a fresh lease of life.

The question is, who would replace him?

Well, there would probably be no shortage of actors lining up — and it sounds like Jon Hamm is keen to place himself towards the front of the queue.

“It depends on the script, what the story is,” Hamm recently told Graham Bensinger during an In Depth interview, per the Hollywood Reporter. “I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I’ve read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I’m pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they’re done well.” Read more…

Michael Keaton deserves an award for the Batman comment he made at a graduation speech

Michael Keaton was a damn good Batman.

The legendary actor gave a commencement speech at Kent State University graduation recently, and he wrapped things up in the most unbelievably wonderful way.

Incredible ‘Batman Ninja’ anime trailer imagines the dark knight as a samurai

TwitterFacebook

The second trailer for Batman Ninja arrived Tuesday and the anime movie looks even better than we could have imagined.

This trailer — the first one in English — gives a better glimpse at what Batman Ninja is about: Batman as a samurai working with a handful of familiar allies including Robin, Catwoman, and Nightwing to stop the Joker. Except everyone has been sent back in time to feudal Japan thanks to Gorilla Grod’s time displacement machine.

Batman Ninja comes out digitally on April 24 with a physical release on May 8. Read more…
