Some 10,000 years ago, after the frigid Ice Age ended, humans tamed the nutritious grain, barley.
It blossomed in a fertile realm of early civilization spanning contemporary states like Israel, Palestine, Jordan and beyond. Then 5,000 years later, peoples in the Zagros Mountains of modern-day Iran learned to brew barley beer. Today, farmers globally harvest tens of millions of tons of the crop each month.
But barley, like many crops, has a flaw: Its yields plummet during heat waves and drought — both extreme consequences of a warming planet. As a primary ingredient in beer, this poses a real threat to the future global supply of frothy ales, lagers, and stouts. Read more…

7 of the best beer brewing kits to keep the suds flowing
There’s nothing quite like kicking up your feet and popping open an ice cold beer when you get home. The only thing that might beat that? Washing down a beer that you brewed yourself.
Granted, homebrewing isn’t exactly a quick or easy task. However, homebrewers find real rewards and pleasure in cultivating this craft — including the occasional bragging rights.
The buzz kill: knowing what kind of beer brewing kit is complicated. Beer brewing niche blogs dispense with conflicting advice, like what size kettle you should invest in, or what type of auto siphon you should buy. If you’ve just begun this journey, you might be asking yourself, “So… what exactly is a wort anyway? And how do I safely sanitize my beers?” Read more…

If you catch a foul ball with your beer cup at a baseball game, the only reasonable thing to do is to chug the remainder of your beer.
A Cubs fan completed his legacy on Monday evening at Wrigley Field in Chicago during a game against the New York Mets. After successfully catching the foul ball hit by first baseman Anthony Rizzo, the man removed his hat, saluted the stadium, and chugged the beer. The crowd went “wild.”
He is now a legend. These are the rules.

Cleveland Browns fans have been suffering for a long, long time.
Not only did the team go winless last season, but its last win was back in 2016 when they narrowly beat the San Diego Chargers in Week 16.

Baseball and beer go hand in hand, for sure, but a baseball in a beer? Ask lucky fan Gabby DiMarco all about it.
As MLB.com’s Cut4 reports, though DiMarco watched her home team, the San Diego Padres, suffer a loss against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, she left the game a clear winner after a ball landed in her beer.
In a video from Petco Park – the Padres’ home stadium – we see a foul ball land right in her cup.
Naturally, she did the only thing one should do in this situation: She chugged the beer for her delighted audience. Read more…
