Samsung lets you remap the Galaxy S10’s Bixby button to everything but the one app everyone wants

TwitterFacebook

Since the Galaxy S8, Samsung has included a physical button to activate its Bixby digital assistant on its flagship phones.

And for just as long, Samsung users have been asking for a way to program the button to do something else — something they’ll actually use — like launch another app or activate a smarter digital assistant such as the Google Assistant

Now, with the introduction of the Galaxy S10 family, Samsung finally caved to the request — sort of.

Ahead of the S10’s global release on March 8, Samsung’s updated phone review units (including ours) with a new setting that lets you change the function of the Bixby button. Read more…

Samsung’s Galaxy Home smart speaker will finally arrive in April

TwitterFacebook

Do you remember Samsung’s Bixby-powered Galaxy Home smart speaker that was created to compete directly with the Amazon Echo?

The smart speaker was announced in August last year, but the company gave no official release date during the announcement. Now, we finally have one — well, sort  of.

At Samsung’s Unpacked event today — where the company announced four new Galaxy S10 phones (S10e, S10, S10+, and S10 5G) and a foldable phone — the head of Samsung’s mobile division DJ Koh told CNET the Galaxy Home will launch in April. Read more…

Samsung’s Bixby-powered Galaxy Home speaker will arrive ‘by April’

Samsung announced a lot today. Like a lot, a lot. But the company was pretty quiet on the Bixby side of things, and the Galaxy Home smart speaker it announced mid-last year was nowhere to be seen. In an interview with mobile CEO DJ Koh, however, CNET was able to get a bit of a […]

Samsung opens its Bixby assistant to developers

Samsung has been suffering through a lot of catch-up in the voice assistant race, but at its annual developer conference the company placed a major emphasis on how it’s expanding the scale and effectiveness of its Bixby assistant. Samsung’s Bixby may finally get more third-party integration soon

Poor Bixby. We admittedly haven’t had a lot of nice things to say about Samsung’s smart assistant since launch — but that’s not for lack of potential. The company has promised great things since day one, but has been slow to deliver on, well, just about everything. Third-party integration was supposed to be one of […]

Samsung makes its virtual assistant Bixby a little less annoying for Note 9 users

TwitterFacebook

Take a deep breath, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 users. Bixby is about to annoy you a little less.

Samsung is giving its Note 9 customers the ability to reduce accidental activations of Bixby. According to Android Authority, thanks to Samsung’s latest Note 9 update, it will now take a double-tap of the dedicated Bixby button to activate Bixby.

For those mobile customers who don’t know what a Bixby is, Bixby is Samsung’s virtual assistant. It’s Samsung’s very own version of Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Siri. The difference is that whatever criticisms you may have about any of those other assistants, Bixby is somehow worse.  Read more…

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 review

There are no secrets in consumer electronics anymore. Sometimes it’s the fault of flubs and flaws and leakers. Sometimes it’s by design. In the case of the Galaxy Note 9, it’s a little bit of both. The Galaxy S9 wasn’t the blockbuster Samsung’s shareholders were expecting, so the company understandably primed the pump through a […]

It might be time for Samsung to dump Bixby

TwitterFacebook

Samsung has a big problem.

No, it’s not just the Galaxy Note 9 is an incremental update. Or that the Galaxy Watch is no Apple Watch. Or that we barely know anything about the Galaxy Home smart speaker.

It’s Bixby

At its summer Unpacked event, Samsung made it clear injecting AI into its products is a key way of differentiating its products from the competition.

“At Samsung we believe it’s time to transcend narrow digital experiences,” said DJ Koh, Samsung’s mobile chief. “It’s time for a new generation of intelligence to anticipate your needs.” Read more…
