Welp, someone basically made that ‘Black Mirror’ dating app

TwitterFacebook

The clock is ticking, and your heart is at stake.

The polarizing Black Mirror Season 4 episode “Hang the DJ” depicted a futuristic dating app in which an AI called “Coach” only gives daters a set amount of time — 12 hours, or even 12 years — to date a potential partner before they must move on to their next match.

Now, of course, somebody has actually built an app inspired by the somewhat dystopian system. First spotted by Forbes, it’s called Juliet and is available for free in the App Store.

On Jan. 2, a 24-year-old programmer named Julian Alexander hosted a Reddit AMA in which he debuted Juliet. The concept is that users of the app will only be paired with one prospective partner at a time, for a set amount of time. There are no profiles, and no swiping — just basic info like sexual orientation and location. Read more…

Or so we thought.

Because according to actor Jimmi Simpson, and in true Black Mirror fashion, there’s a “but” to even the moderately happy ending of “USS Calister.” In an Entertainment Weekly interview, he revealed a personal pet theory to the lingering question of what exactly became of his lovable Spock stand-in, Walton. Warning: Contains mild spoilers for Black Mirror Season 4, episode 6.

If there’s one thing The Ricky Gervais Show and An Idiot Abroad have taught us, it’s that Karl Pilkington has some unusual ideas about the world.

Turns out they make glorious Black Mirror storylines, though.

This new ‘Black Mirror’ Season 4 teaser is the most disturbing so far

TwitterFacebook

Up until now we’ve had two Black Mirror Season 4 episode teasers, and neither of them exactly look cheerful.

The third trailer looks even more grim, though.

On Wednesday, the official @blackmirror account shared a 1-minute teaser video for “Black Museum”:

That episode is going to contain three stories in one, according to producer Annabel Jones — and from the looks of the teaser and the equally creepy poster that was tweeted out on Tuesday, it’s going to be one of Season 4’s darker episodes.

It’s sort of hard to tell exactly what’s going on in the clip, but the story seems to revolve around a museum dedicated to past crimes — and possibly an experience which allows people to relive those crimes in some way, à la Strange Days? Read more…
