Marvel Studios has added Danai Gurira’s name to the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ poster

A victory for Wakandans (and publicists) everywhere! 

Following backlash from fans, Marvel Studios has corrected and re-released the official poster for Avengers: Endgame, the first version of which failed to properly credit Black Panther and Infinity War actress, Danai Gurira. 

Notably, Gurira was the only Black Panther cast member to appear on the poster  — mostly thanks to Thanos — as well as the only Endgame cast member to appear on it without credit. (Yes, even Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin got credited for their respective roles as Rocket the Raccoon and Thanos the gigantic, purple thumb.) Read more…

‘Black Panther’ wins an Oscar for its amazing costumes

The impressive costume design work in Black Panther won the film its first Academy Award on Sunday night.

Black Panther costume designer Ruth Carter won an Oscar at the 2019 Academy Awards, one of seven awards that the film was up for on Sunday, including Best Picture.

This was Carter’s third Oscar nomination and her first win, the first two being for Malcom X in 1992 and Amistad in 1997. She has also done work on films like Do The Right Thing, The Butler, and Selma.

The future is female, diverse, and lucrative as hell.

A new study conducted by USC’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative has revealed what many 2018 moviegoers already knew: Women and people of color crushed it at the box office.

Looking at the 100 highest-grossing films from each of the past 12 years, USC’s research team broke down 2018’s diversity gains by comparing last year’s casting stats with previously established casting trends.

Chadwick Boseman is a superhero, and you’d better believe he gave a speech worthy of a superhero after Black Panther picked up the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture on Sunday.

“To be young, gifted, and black,” Boseman, who plays the lead role of T’Challa, said to the crowd. “We all know what it’s like to be told that there is not a place for you to be featured — yet you are young, gifted and black. Mixing super heroes, memes, girl power, and social justice in one movie is just about the most 21st century theme you could think of. That movie is Black Panther, and it just became the first super hero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

Aside from that, it’s also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Achievement in Production Design, Best Original Song, Achievement in Costume Design, Best Original Score, Achievement in Sound Editing, and Achievement in Sound Mixing. YO.

Black Panther had no trouble conquering critics, fans, and the global box office. But could it go on to awards glory? 

The Marvel movie is one of 10 films up nominated for the Producers Guild of America’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures — essentially the organization’s equivalent of Best Picture.

Also in the running are BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians, The Favourite, Green Book, A Quiet Place, Roma, A Star Is Born, and Vice. 

The PGA Awards’ animated movie category is looking even more superhero-friendly, with both Incredibles 2 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse up for prizes along with Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, Isle of Dogs, and Ralph Breaks the Internet.  Read more…
