Transit officials checked out Elon Musk’s tunnel and tried very hard not to mock it

Virginia transit officials don’t seem very impressed with Elon Musk’s tunnel and they had a very hard time trying to hide it.

The state’s public transit subcommittee is in talks to invest billions of dollars to upgrade its transportation systems. However, the board was worried that rail infrastructure projects would soon be rendered obsolete by technology like Elon Musk’s much-hyped tunnel. So, earlier this year Elon Musk’s Boring Company provided a tour of its tunnel in Southern California to Virginia transit officials.

This week, the transit professionals who experienced Musk’s tunnel shared their opinions to the subcommittee. Read more…

We used Boring’s Not-A-Flamethrower to burn away the worst of 2018

TwitterFacebook

As 2018 comes to a close, it’s hard not to look back at the year with some bitterness.

Okay, okay, 2018 wasn’t complete trash for everyone. But for all the highs, there were an equal amount (if not more) lows that made the year kind of suck.

We’re not here to be a Debbie Downer and dredge up all the bad moments 2018 threw at us, so instead we’re using this very last day of the year to cleanse the past and ring in 2019 in Mashable style: by burning it all away 🔥.

Armed with our new little friend, the Boring Not-A-Flamethrower, we torched some of the year’s worst times — trends and products that rightfully deserved to be incinerated. Read more…

Elon Musk’s Boring Company wants to build a tunnel to Dodger Stadium

TwitterFacebook

How do you solve the problem of traffic jamming every time there’s a match at the Dodger Stadium? If you ask Elon Musk, it’s simple: Dig a tunnel.

In a blog post published Thursday, the company detailed its vision for the Dugout Loop — a “zero-emissions, high-speed, underground public transportation system from the Los Feliz, East Hollywood, or Rampart Village neighborhoods (“western terminus”) to Dodger Stadium in the City of Los Angeles.”

The Dugout Loop aims to reduce the often horrid Los Angeles traffic, especially during events at the Dodger Stadium. According to the company, the project will transport people in the neighborhoods outlined above to the stadium in “less than 4 minutes.” Read more…

Elon Musk tweets photos from cave where Thai soccer team is trapped

Elon Musk is here to save the day, even though it’s probably not necessary

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was  — if his Twitter and Instagram accounts are to be believed — in Thailand on Monday touring the cave where a team of 12 soccer players, aged 11 to 16, became stuck with their coach on June 23. Musk says he’s there to help, and you better believe he brought his kid-sized submarine with him.

Importantly, as of the time of this writing, eight of the 13 trapped people have already been saved by the heroic actions of rescue divers and support teams. Musk, who has been documenting his efforts to build the aforementioned sub to possibly help in the rescue, still clearly felt like he had something to offer.  Read more…
