H1-B changes will simplify application process

The federal government yesterday published the final rule for changes to the H1-B visa program, which is one of the primary conduits for technical talent to come and work in the United States. There are two key changes coming with the rule. First, the government will require applicants for an H1-B visa to electronically register […]

This tweet is the most incredibly accurate description of British weather

TwitterFacebook

Okay, here in Britain we’re not known for great weather. But we sure as hell can turn it into one killer tweet.

Having gone through the “Beast from the East”, and then the “mini-Beast from the East”, Brits are even more fed up with the weather than usual.

To sum up our meteorological woes here’s comedy writer Aaron Gillies, a.k.a. Technically Ron.

How the seasons work in the UK:
Jan – Cold
Feb – Still Cold
Mar – Still cold but snow now
Apr – Rain
May – More rain
Jun – Why is it still raining
July – BEES
Aug – Oh god it is so hot
Sept – I miss the heat
Oct – Heat is simply a memory
Nov – Cold
Dec – Cold but with capitalism

British Parliament is actually calling on Trump to delete his Twitter account

TwitterFacebook

But Thursday’s display for the “urgent question” at the House of Commons, after the U.S. president retweeted three videos from extreme far-right, anti-Muslim group Britain First, is in many ways unprecedented.

While Home Secretary Amber Rudd kept an institutional profile, reiterating the government’s line that Donald Trump was “wrong” to retweet Britain First and confirming his state visit has been postponed until further notice, other MPs went much further, venting their anger and condemnation at Trump’s words.  Read more…

Britain is not buying into Black Friday and it’s a point of national pride

TwitterFacebook

That’s right: it’ll take more than some sales to get through our national crustiness.

Increasingly over the past few years, it’s seemed that Black Friday has landed on British soil. But although shops are offering events and deals as they do in the US, the consumer reaction seems relatively tame.

Britain’s health service uses long Twitter thread to explain why it needs more black people to donate blood

TwitterFacebook

The NHS, Britain’s national health service, has launched into a long Twitter thread to explain why it’s calling for more black people to donate blood.

Using celebrity GIFs and millennial slang, the Blood and Transplant social media team seemed to be trying to preemptively fend off possible allegations of racism while explaining that blood groups are more or less common in different ethnic groups:

People from Black African and Black Caribbean ethnic backgrounds are also more likely to have the rare subgroup called Ro — about “ten times more likely than a white person,” the NHS saidRead more…
