The new specialty Reese’s cups are perfect for the nuanced Reese’s palate

TwitterFacebook

The only good news is candy news, so it’s wonderful that two new Reese’s cups will hit shelves soon.

Chocolate Lovers and Peanut Butter Lovers cups, which will be available beginning mid-April of this year, cater to those who crave slightly more chocolate or slightly more peanut butter from their Reese’s experience. They’re not shaped differently than a standard cup — we have seasonal Reese’s for that — but they are fun little variations on an already good candy.

Let’s break them down:

I have never sought out a Reese’s cup for the chocolate. It’s the peanut butter that sets the candy apart. So I was not particularly excited for the ” thicker chocolate shell,” which I felt would further ruin the chocolate-peanut butter ratio, nor the “richer, darker milk chocolate.” Read more…

Seasonal Reese’s are better than Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

TwitterFacebook

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are obviously incredible, the envy of their chocolaty peers. But as Easter approaches and we begin to consider our springtime candy lineups (I assume everyone does this), it might be time to admit that specialty Reese’s — we’ll use the seasonal Reese’s Egg as an example — are better.

There are several key differences between Reese’s Cups and Reese’s Eggs, including size, shape, and the amount of peanut butter within the chocolate shell. Most notably, the cup has ridges and the egg does not.

But Reese’s, it turns out, do not need ridges to be the best versions of themselves. In fact, they just need to be shapeless, chunky globs. Read more…

Making your own Skittles seems, uh, nearly impossible

TwitterFacebook

Want to make your own gourmet Skittles? Good luck. It seems almost impossible.

Claire Saffitz, pastry chef and senior food editor at Bon Appétit, attempts to make her own version of the iconic treat in a new video on the magazine’s YouTube channel. After several attempts (and several weeks), she finally creates a candy that seems super spot-on — at least according to her coworkers’ reviews.

The best part, in our opinion: She made the green candies lime-flavored instead of green apple, as they should be. Read more…

Make a giant lollipop replica of your face, because why not?

TwitterFacebook

Damn, Firebox, back at it again with the creepy personalized gifts.

Firebox is a London-based online retailer known for their super-weird yet super-funny items. A few months ago, we covered their heartwarmingly creepy collection of gifts with giant faces on them: pillows and suitcases were among those items. And now, they’ve returned with another giant face gift that is literally too sweet to hate: lollipops. (I mean, would you expect anything less from Firebox?)

The Face Licker is a handmade lollipop, molded into a life-size version of whatever face you’d like — just submit a photo and add descriptions for hair color, eye color, and other important details. Each lolly is made from scratch and carefully assembled, so you can count on your Face Licker’s facial features being pretty accurate.  Read more…

Find out which Easter candy is the most popular — or polarizing — in your state

TwitterFacebook

Is your state yelling the most about Peeps or Reese’s eggs? Now’s your chance to find out.

A new map from product review website Influenster uses the site’s review data to discover which seasonal Easter candy is the most “buzzed-about” in each state. This doesn’t necessarily equate to the most popular candy in each state, just the one with the most reviews — meaning the states that went Peeps could have done so because people really, really hate them. (If they have souls, that is. Peeps are bad.)

Anyway, here’s the map. If you want to chat about foil-wrapped chocolate bunnies, please head to South Dakota as soon as possible. Read more…
