This cat opening a door by himself is truly impressive

TwitterFacebook

Videos of cats opening doors are always good, but here is a particularly good one.

It was taken by Twitter user @steeleio_, who couldn’t figure out why her roommate’s cat was always able to break out of their bathroom. So she set up a camera on a shower shelf, shut the cat in the bathroom, and shook his food bag outside the door so he’d want to get out.

He escaped in less than five minutes. “Once he got out, we gave him a treat and watched the video,” @steeleio_ explained via Twitter DM. “My roommate was in complete shock.”

Here is the video. Watch and be amazed.

Some good news: Doughnut the 28-pound cat has a new home

TwitterFacebook

Move over Bruno: Another thicc cat’s found his happy home.

The enormous 28-pound cat’s name is Doughnut, and the internet fell in love with him on Friday when the Jacksonville Humane Society posted photos of him on Facebook

OH LAWD HE COMIN! #chonk pic.twitter.com/ZeZc0iI9A3

— Jax Humane Society (@jaxhumane) October 26, 2018

According to the original post showing off all of Doughnut’s curves, one requirement for his new home was “an owner who is willing to keep him on his strict diet.” They acknowledged that while many of us might like a chunky cat, it’s really not very healthy for Doughnut to be that overweight.  Read more…

MIT researchers say memory splitting breakthrough could prevent another Meltdown or Spectre

Virtually every modern computer processor was thrown under the bus earlier this year when researchers found a fundamental design weakness in Intel, AMD and ARM chips, making it possible to steal sensitive data from the computer’s memory. The Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities — which date back to 1995 — punched holes in the walls that […]

7 of the best robot vacuums to tackle pet hair

TwitterFacebook

Pets are mediocre roommates. Sure, they’re adorable. And they have a preternatural ability to cuddle. But pets are also messy. They pay no mind as to where they shed or track dirt. You’re forced to constantly clean up after them which, frankly, we find pretty rude. Fortunately, robot vacuums are here to save the day. Or, at the very least, help cut down on your housework. These devices live for picking up stray bits of food, litter and hair, ensuring your home doesn’t turn into a den of debris. Of course, before you rush over to Amazon or (gasp!) an actual store, you’ll want find out which vacuum might be best for you. Read more…

Cat S61 review: Tough as nails but not for everyone

TwitterFacebook
Cat S61
$1,022
The Good

Lots of unique features • Durable to very high specifications • Different than anything else on the market

The Bad

Buggy software • Mediocre specs • especially considering the price

The Bottom Line

The Cat S61 is an interesting phone, which is a label that doesn’t fit too many phones these days. However, the software needs work, and the price tag is too high for what it offers.

Mashable Score3.0
Cool Factor4.0
Learning Curve2.0
Performance3.0
Bang for the Buck3.0

Here’s a quick test to see whether you need a phone like the Cat S61: Do you work in construction? Do you often repair stuff around the house? Do you drop your phone once a week or more? Do you use your phone in very inhospitable conditions, such as extreme cold or wet places? Read more…

A ‘clairvoyant’ cat has predicted who will win the World Cup opening match

TwitterFacebook

Psychic animals predicting the results of big events is pretty much a time-honoured tradition.

We’ve previously had a Scottish goat divining the US election result (it got it wrong), and — many years ago — we had an octopus called Paul who used to predict the winners of World Cup matches (he sadly passed away back in 2010).

Well, now it’s Achilles the cat’s turn.

Achilles the cat, who lives in the Hermitage in St Petersburg, is going to be the official oracle for the World Cup in Russia and predict the outcome of matches. He looks thrilledhttps://t.co/zzw7mBxfXH pic.twitter.com/vkTmyrbMSW
