Colin Kaepernick settles collusion case with NFL

TwitterFacebook

Colin Kaepernick and his former teammate, Eric Reid, have reached a settlement in their suit against the NFL.

The players sued the league in 2017, alleging it colluded to keep the players out of league in response to their protests — against police brutality and racial injustice — during the pre-game National Anthem, which drew the ire of President Donald Trump.

Details of the settlement were not disclosed. In fact, it seems like we’re destined to know very little about the terms of the deal, unless they leak out at some point. The NFL issued a brief, three sentence joint statement on the matter. Read more…

Cheerleader takes a knee in protest before an NFL game

TwitterFacebook

Even as a few players continue to kneel during the national anthem, the furor over the NFL’s anthem protests has been relatively quiet this season. But this week a San Francisco 49ers cheerleader took a knee and brought renewed attention to the protests.

The incident occurred on Thursday night ahead of the 49ers game against the Oakland Raiders. Fans in the crowd snapped photos of the unidentified cheerleader taking a knee in the endzone.

Trump’s Nike tweet proves you should never ask a rhetorical question on Twitter

TwitterFacebook

Per usual, President Donald Trump woke up bright and early to tweet on Friday morning. This time, he went with, “What was Nike thinking?,” a clear reference to the brand’s new campaign starring former NFL star Colin Kaepernick.

Fresh on the heels of a fear-mongering campaign rally in Montana, the tweet — like most of Trump’s tweets — was clearly intended to rile up his base. Fortunately, it was also a rhetorical question, which everyone knows is a recipe for disaster if you’re trying to prove a point.

Colin Kaepernick’s Nike ad is naturally a meme now

TwitterFacebook

On Monday, Nike unveiled athlete and activist Colin Kaepernick as one of the faces of its new campaign and soon after chaos ensued, because…of course it did.

Kaepernick’s Nike ad features a close-up of the football player’s face, and ad copy that reads, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

The athlete rose to national fame for being the first NFL player to kneel during the National Anthem in protest of police brutality against African-American people in the United States. His protest has since inspired players across the league to do the same. Read more…

People are getting roasted for their hilariously ineffective Nike protests

TwitterFacebook

Remember when people smashed their expensive Keurig coffee brewers all in the name of protest? Well, this week the same phenomenon is happening with Nike products.

On Sunday, the sportswear company announced that Colin Kaepernick is one of the faces for their new “Just Do It” campaign, to the chagrin of some and the joy of many more. Folks who are adamantly against the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback — known for kneeling against police brutality — have come up with a rather unusual way to protest: destroying Nike gear they already own.

Nike makes Colin Kaepernick one of the faces of its ‘Just Do It’ campaign

TwitterFacebook

On Labor Day, Nike released a powerful ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, the NFL star still in exile for standing up for his beliefs.

The ad is a simple black and white image of Kaepernick’s face with the message, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Kaepernick tweeted the ad from his Twitter account Monday afternoon.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the ad is part of a campaign that will make Kaepernick one of the faces of the company’s legendary “Just Do It” campaign, which turns 30 this year. The company also released ads featuring Serena Williams, NFL receiver Odell Beckham, Jr., and one-handed football player Shaquem Griffin, who made the Seattle Seahawks for the upcoming NFL season. The NFL’s new anthem rules are here and, yep, they’re terrible

TwitterFacebook

After a few seasons of pearl-clutching and horror over players expressing their First Amendment right, the NFL has approved new rules for behavior during the playing of the national anthem which solve absolutely nothing.

The new policy basically demands players stand and respect the anthem on the field or face fines from both the league and from the player’s team.

But the NFL, benevolent overlords that they are, have given players an out: players who don’t want to stand for the anthem will be allowed to stay in the locker room, a stupid, horrible decision that solves absolutely nothing.  Read more…
