This is what happens when an e-bike company makes an electric car

Biomega is known for its electric bicycles, but this week the Danish company revealed a new product: SIN, a minimalist electric concept car.

The car is the ultimate city-mobile with a minimal aesthetic (and we mean minimal). It features four stripped back seats and lightweight materials throughout. It barely has doors — where a traditional door would be is glass. The roof is a continuation of the front windshield. The inside of the car is pretty much bare with a flat floor.

With a lighter car, the battery range is supposed to improve since less power is consumed to move it. The concept car’s battery weighs 440 pounds. For comparison, a Tesla Model 3 battery weighs more than 1,000 pounds. Read more…

Peugeot says self-driving cars like its e-Legend can be more than sci-fi pods

TwitterFacebook

French car maker Peugeot doesn’t think the future of self-driving cars has to look like sci-fi-inspired pods.

Instead, a design executive said this week he thinks car design could even be pleasant and alluring, since “there’s a danger the future might be very robotic and might lack soul.”

Peugeot introduced its own vision of future car design at the Paris Auto Show, which wraps up Sunday. The e-Legend is an electric, autonomous concept vehicle. Its design comes from vintage cars as an ironic twist on its driverless capabilities. Read more…

I had surrendered my cellphone and everything in my purse but my drivers license to see BMW’s iNext vehicle. Its tour started in Munich a few days earlier; it came to the Bay Area after a stop at New York’s JFK airport, and was scheduled to continue on to Beijing. Talk about precious cargo.

After passing a final security check, I climbed up the rickety staircase with fellow media members and entered the cavernous aircraft. We had been told very little about what we were going to see, except it was not only the “car of the future” but the “idea of the future.” Read more…

Russia’s biggest gun maker wants to take on Tesla with electric ‘supercar’

Russia’s biggest gun manufacturer is looking to take on Tesla with its new electric concept car.

Kalashnikov, maker of the AK-47 assault weapon, has gone retro with its new “supercar,” the CV-1, unveiled at a Russian defense show near Moscow Thursday.

According to media outlets reporting at a press event at the expo, a Kalashnikov media rep said the car will “let us stand in the ranks of global electric car producers such as Tesla.”

It certainly looks retro, with the design and body of an old-school IZh 21252 “Kombi” car — the Kombi came from a Soviet era car maker from the 1970s. It’s a bold design decision, a vintage throwback akin to the Fujifilm Instax camera. Read more…
