‘Aquaman’ is now the biggest DC Extended Universe movie ever

TwitterFacebook

Aquaman slid past Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on Saturday to become the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe film internationally.

Dawn of Justice made $863 million at the global box office – Aquaman is already at $887 million, after just two weeks in theaters.

Though reviews weren’t universally positive, many were average (the film has 64 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and audience response has been favorable. What sets Aquaman apart from other DCEU fare is that it’s fun. This movie gets ridiculous and sometimes down right weird, but it’s colorful and powerful and just a good time at the movies.  Read more…

Henry Cavill loved ‘Aquaman’ so much he went for a swim with a fork

TwitterFacebook

While Henry Cavill’s first look as Geralt in the TV adaptation of The Witcher video game did not go down well, his Aquaman impression can stay.

The Justice League star posted a congratulatory Instagram to his superhero co-star Jason Momoa by channeling his box-office smash Aquaman

Cavill, who’s usually seen donning a cape as Superman in the DC Extended Universe films, instead took to a body of water — in what weirdly looks like the dead of night — capeless, Lycra-less, and wielding a fork as a trident.

“Channeling the man of the hour, the man of big hugs, big laughs and big pints of Guinness, my man Jason Momoa. How’d I do?” he captioned the post. Read more…

‘Aquaman’ overtakes ‘Wonder Woman’ in global box office total

TwitterFacebook

Aquaman just slid past Wonder Woman‘s international box office, earning over $822 million (Wonder Woman earned $821.8 million globally).

This makes Aquaman the second-highest DC Extended Universe global box office, behind 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Wonder Woman is still winning the domestic box office (it reached $330 million while Aquaman is around $189 million), but Aquaman‘s international sales have boosted its performance immensely, particularly in China.

Both Aquaman and Wonder Woman made their debuts in Dawn of Justice, along with Ezra Miller as the Flash. The film reached the $873.6 million mark globally – a goal Aquaman is on track to achieve, having been in theaters only two weeks thus far.  Read more…

Ruby Rose to debut as The CW’s Batwoman

TwitterFacebook

Ruby Rose will be donning the legendary cowl of Batwoman on the CW, TV Line reports. Her character will debut in a December crossover of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow, with a standalone series in the works for 2019.

Batwoman a.k.a. Kate Kane is “armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind.” That and “highly trained street fighter” seem pretty in line with Rose’s badass on-screen persona (have you seen xXx: Return of Xander Cage??).

The character is also canonically lesbian, as is Rose, and producers were specifically scouting an actress of the same sexuality to better inform the character, along with writer Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries), who also identifies as a lesbian. Read more…
