People are jokingly asking USC to consider admitting their very gifted dogs

Unleash the scholarships!

In the wake of the college admissions scandal that shocked the internet, jokes about the situation have proliferated. The first round consisted of people tweeting out the “old-fashioned” ways they got into college. Now, the dogs want in.

People have begun posting photos of their pets along with their “credentials,” asking USC admissions to accept them. (For those who are not steeped in this scandal, actress Lori Louglin allegedly bought her daughter’s admission to USC.)

We must say, these are some fetching applicants.

Hey @USC,

My dogs are pretty good at water polo. Can you designate them as recruits?

Thanks!

Twitter account asks most important question in video games: Can you pet the dog?

TwitterFacebook

If there is a dog in a video game, it should be considered a crime if you’re not able to pet it.

Video games can be filled with violent battles, bloodshed, and intense competition. Your game could have the most realistic depiction of war on the planet, but if there is a puppy sitting right there and I can’t pet it? Don’t even talk to me.

Twitter account @CanYouPetTheDog is asking the tough questions of our favorite game developers — have they included a mechanic that allows you to give a virtual good boy all the love they deserve?

This adorable experiment created a real-life Dug the Dog from ‘Up’

TwitterFacebook

We all remember Dug the Dog, the adorably goofy pup from Pixar’s Up who was able to communicate his thoughts and feelings thanks to some nifty technology.

Well, now we’re one step closer to such technology being real, thanks to some students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The team explains in the above video how they built the interface, which reads the neural responses of Alma, an adorable golden retriever. They’re then translated and deliver a pre-recorded vocal response.

How accurate is the device? That’s debatable, to say the least. There’s a mountain of research and debate about how dogs “think” that’s yet to be settled. Still, it’s a neat — and extremely cute — experiment. Read more…

The Whistle 3 GPS tracker is basically an Apple Watch for dogs, and it’s $20 off with this coupon on Amazon.

Knowing your fur baby is safe and healthy at all times is a must for a pet parent — but no matter how responsible you are, keeping tabs 24/7 just isn’t realistic.

Until someone figures out how to translate barks into words like the collar in Disney Pixar’s Up, the Whistle 3 GPS tracker is the next best thing. And with this $20 clip coupon on Amazon, it can be yours for $79.95.

Just think of it as Find My iPhone, but for dogs: Nationwide location tracking via AT&T lets you pinpoint your dog’s whereabouts 24/7, as well as monitor where they’ve gone during the day. Safe spaces (like home, lake house, the end of your street, etc.) can be set up with WiFi as a sort of virtual electric fence. If your pet wanders out of the safe zone, a notification will be sent to you before they get too far away — and on the off chance that he or she does go missing, you’ll have much more reliable backup than posting on Facebook.  Read more…
