Stephen Colbert calls BS on Trump’s ‘Tim Apple’ excuses

After Donald Trump referred to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook as “Tim Apple,” Stephen Colbert weighed in on the “ongoing national scandal that we’re calling Applegate (not Christina).”

Another reason to fear Facebook: Trump admin considers using social media to deny you benefits

TwitterFacebook

As if you needed another reason to stop posting on Facebook

The Trump administration is reportedly working in collaboration with the Social Security Administration to develop a plan for combing through social media posts for evidence — whatever that means — that those receiving certain types of government benefits should have those benefits denied. That’s right, your ‘gram-worthy vacation pics could soon cause you to lose your disability insurance benefits.

So reports the New York Times, which cites “administration officials” as confirming that the White House is “actively” working on making this authoritarian fever dream a reality. The idea is not a new one, the Times notes, having been suggested in an earlier Social Security budget request, but this new reporting confirms that it’s moved past the conceptual phase. Read more…

Donald Trump can’t stop lying about the ‘Tim Apple’ flub for some strange reason

TwitterFacebook

Like a toddler or a ‘flat earth’ truther, President Trump seems intent on denying things that are established facts.

On Monday morning, Trump tweeted that when he referred to Apple CEO Tim Cook as “Tim Apple” at a White House roundtable last week, he was really saying “Tim/Apple” as a way to “save words,” which is totally something Trump is known for doing…

At a recent round table meeting of business executives, & long after formally introducing Tim Cook of Apple, I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words. The Fake News was disparagingly all over this, & it became yet another bad Trump story!

Filter concert in Texas canceled after band shares anti-Trump Facebook post

TwitterFacebook

Rock band Filter had their show cancelled on Thursday night after frontman Richard Patrick posted an anti-Trump video on Facebook.

The problems started during the band’s soundcheck at the Speaking Rock Entertainment Center in El Paso, Texas. Patrick, the lead vocalist, uploaded a video live from the venue to the band’s Facebook page promoting the show later that night.

“A lot of trump bashing!” Patrick promised, along with a request that former U.S. Democratic Congressman and El Paso native Beto O’Rourke come to the performance.

Not long after the video of the band’s soundcheck hit social media, Patrick posted on Instagram to share that the show had been cancelled. Read more…

Tim Cook new Twitter name calls out Trump’s ‘Tim Apple’ flub

TwitterFacebook

If you can say one thing about Apple CEO, it’s that he has a great sense of humor.

Cook has changed his Twitter name from “Tim Cook” (pretty obvious) to “Tim ,” seemingly in homage to President Donald Trump’s flub on Wednesday when he called him “Tim Apple” during a meeting.

A quick hop into the Internet Wayback Machine confirms the change has taken place since Trump’s faux pas — which was so glorious we should all definitely rewatch it. Read more…

Hillary Clinton subtweeted Trump with a ‘Mean Girls’ reference and we are screaming

TwitterFacebook

It’s been two and a half years since the hellscape that was the 2016 presidential election, but Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have not stopped bickering over Twitter.

On Tuesday, Clinton subtweeted Trump with a classic teen movie quote.

Trump, ignoring the fact that it’s 2019 and the election is long over, mocked Clinton for not running in 2020.

“Aw-shucks, does that mean I won’t get to run against her again?” the president tweeted. “She will be sorely missed!”

“(Crooked) Hillary Clinton confirms she will not run in 2020, rules out a third bid for White House.” Aw-shucks, does that mean I won’t get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!

Roger Stone’s very lame Instagram meme may soon land him in jail

TwitterFacebook

Roger Stone just can’t quit Instagramming.

Now it seems his inability to stay off the app may land him in serious trouble for violating a gag order in his current case stemming from the Mueller investigation.

Stone posted the image in question to his Instagram stories on Sunday. It’s a play on the Disney classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit, except with Stone subbed in for the titular bunny. It’s an obvious joke, one so bad it deserves at least an eyeroll.

This $550M fund is bringing green tech from the West to China, despite trade tensions

Escalating trade frictions between the U.S. and China have a range of businesses and investors in both countries sweating, but some believe there remains a bright spot where the antagonists can find common ground — fighting environmental issues. One of them is the U.S.-China Green Fund, which does exactly as the name suggests — financing […]
