Your electric scooter could one day be autonomous.

Uber is working on self-driving scooters and bikes, according to 3DRobotics CEO Chris Anderson. The company announced plans to explore electric scooters and bikes that can drive themselves to charging stations and riders.

In a tweet on Saturday, Anderson revealed that the ride-hailing app is hiring engineers for “Micromobility Robotics” — a division under JUMP, Uber’s on-demand rideshare for bikes and scooters. Its main group, Uber Advance Technologies Group, will continue its work on self-driving cars.

It can be a real headache trying to decide which electric horse to back, and if the previous ride-sharing wars were any indication, things are bound to get ugly. But you can skip all of that by entering to win your very own, 100% free Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter

The Mi has a range of 18.6 miles – longer than any of the ride-sharing scooters currently parked on just about every corner out there. Couple that with a top speed of 15.5 mph, and you’ve got a pretty wide range of travel, suitable to run a few daily errands and maybe even take you to and from work. Read more…

Vespa is going green.

The Piaggio Group, the parent company behind the iconic motor scooter brand, just announced at the Milan Motorcycle Show that Vespa will produce its first all-electric model in 2018. The Electtrica first debuted as a concept vehicle at last year’s show, but now, as more automakers embrace electrification and release all-electric and hybrid vehicles, the company will actually put the scooter on roads IRL.

The EV doesn’t look much different from Vespa’s other offerings — it’s got the same design profile as the gas-powered Primavera, with a space-age chrome-and-blue color scheme in promo images (seven other color variations will also be produced).  Read more…
