Here at Mashable, the Elizabeth Holmes obsession could not be stronger.

We’ve read the book, listened to the podcast, watched both of the documentaries — and have been wearing nothing but black turtlenecks for the past six days. (Okay, not really on that last part, but we have been blinking less.)

While Alex Gibney’s Theranos doc for HBO The Inventor took the internet by storm after its premiere last Monday, us Holmes aficionados know the two-hour film barely scratched the surface on this fascinating ex-CEO.

If you’re new to the Holmes craze, welcome! We’re so happy you’ve joined us. Now that you’re one of the crew, let’s round out your knowledge a bit beyond what the doc covered. Read more…

Can’t get enough of Elizabeth Holmes? Here’s what to watch after ‘The Inventor’

TwitterFacebook

Theranos ex-CEO Elizabeth Holmes has yet to lock down a date for her criminal trial, but in the court of public opinion, a verdict has already been rendered.

If you’ve been on the internet at all in the past week, you’ve likely seen a small truckload of viewer reactions to HBO’s The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley — many of them delighting in the damning portrayal of Holmes and her alleged multi-million dollar fraud.

But HBO wasn’t the first to profile the entrepreneur and they won’t be the last. From podcasts to movies, the now-defunct blood-testing company is the subject of a whole slew of projects, nearly all of which position Holmes as their star subject. Read more…

HBO’s Theranos documentary has finally aired, and you bet people have thoughts.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley was always going to be a creepy watch, but what’s particularly shocking are the details of how Elizabeth Holmes managed to fool enough rich people into given her millions of dollars for technology that didn’t work.

Holmes, who modelled herself after Steve Jobs, even wore a black turtleneck. At least one person dressed for the occasion.

‘The Inventor’ is a monster movie. Elizabeth Holmes is its star.

“She didn’t blink.”

It’s a peculiar observation, but when ex-Theranos receptionist Cheryl Gafner makes it, it’s hard to shake — Elizabeth Holmes, the fraudster behind the now defunct blood testing company Theranos, doesn’t blink.

Or at least when she does blink, it is done with purpose, a cool and calculating gesture that accompanies a specific word or phrase. To Holmes, blinks are seemingly for conveying sincerity and establishing trust, not an involuntary response to, y’know, having eyeballs.

It’s an unsettling behavior to witness, particularly when put in the context of Holmes’ dangerous multi-million dollar fraud. But gaining awareness of creepy details like this one is an essential part of The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley viewing experience.  Read more…
