Samsung really wants you to know the Galaxy Fold doesn’t have a crease problem

Samsung is gearing up to launch its much anticipated foldable phone but they are facing one speed bump: the crease. A video released on YouTube earlier this month showed the Galaxy Fold with a notable crease. Now Samsung has replied with their own vi…

The next version of Android is here… sorta.

Like clockwork, Google’s released the first beta version of its mobile operating system, Android Q, for developers. The new version of Android is available to download for all Google Pixel owners — that’s for Pixel 1, 2, and 3 — and includes a number of updates ranging from improved security to with the most notable being support for foldable devices.

One of the biggest issues facing foldable devices is how Android will adapt to the various modes when folded and unfolded. Different devices will have have different display configurations and it’s important Android can morph appropriately. Read more…

Samsung to build two more foldable phones, report says

TwitterFacebook

Samsung Galaxy Fold is not the only foldable phone coming from the Korean giant’s workshop. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the company is working on two more foldable phones, each with its own distinctive design.

One of these phones will have a clamshell design — vertically folding, Razr-style — while the other will fold outwards, just like Huawei’s Mate X

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Dery told Engadget, regarding phones with foldable screens, that Motorola has “no intention of coming later than everybody else in the market.” Read more…

OnePlus CEO not impressed by folding phones

TwitterFacebook

BARCELONA — OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, who is very picky about corners, doesn’t like the ones he sees on the folding phones here at MWC19.

“It’s not product excellence, having to stop at that level of large curvature,” he said through a translator. “My focus is on the flexible OLED technology, and as that advances and gets really good, what possibilities there are. When those fields can get really small and tight, what possibilities are there for the screen technology?”

Of course Lau would be talking about the degrees of fold. The cult phone-maker CEO, who has an engineering background, is informally known as the chief product designer at OnePlus, and once showed me how he obsessed over the corner radius when developing the OnePlus 6. Read more…
