Gwyneth Paltrow to say bye to Pepper Potts after ‘Avengers: Endgame’

TwitterFacebook

Gwyneth Paltrow will reportedly exit the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame. The actress told Variety that the April film will be her last hurrah as Stark Industries exec Pepper Potts, whom she debuted in 2008 at the start of the MCU.

“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” she said (Pepper suited up in 2013’s Iron Man 3 after nearly dying in battle). “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it…It was such a wonderful experience making the first ‘Iron Man’ and then to watch how important it has become to the fans.”

Of course Goop and Dyson are selling a 24-karat gold hair dryer

TwitterFacebook

It’s a match made in late-stage capitalism heaven.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s pseudoscience-filled lifestyle brand Goop is now shilling a Dyson product that truly embodies the best of the word “excess.”

Please meet the Dyson Supersonichair dryer in 23.75 karat gold

Dyson released this very special edition of its Supersonic hair dryer in August. It’s an ultra-luxe version of its (actually great, if pricey) hair dryer. Just, ya know, adorned with gold.

But not just any gold! It’s gold leaf, sourced from Italy, and hand painted on every device. The wand of the dryer also comes in a nice royal blue. The case comes in a red that matches the “gesso” of the dryer. Over time, the gesso will mix with the gold to form a signature “patina.” (I learned a lot of new words reading the description of this golden blow dryer).  Read more…

Goop has been reported to UK regulators for ‘potentially dangerous’ claims

Gwyneth Paltrow’s controversial lifestyle and wellness brand Goop is facing some adversity these days. Just a month after settling a consumer protection case in California over unscientific claims, Goop has been reported to two regulators in the UK — the National Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Authority.

Goop was reported by Good Thinking Society, a pro-science organisation, for 113 misleading claims on their website. According to Good Thinking Society, the 113 claims are in violation of UK advertising law.  Read more…

Goop is finally hiring a fact-checker and it’s about time

TwitterFacebook

Goop — Gwyneth Paltrow’s snake oil-peddling lifestyle enterprise known for its questionable “health and wellness” claims — is at long last hiring a fact-checker. And, my goodness, it is about bloody time.

In a profile in the New York Times, Paltrow expressed her, uhhh, lack of enthusiasm for making the hire, which she called a “necessary growing pain.”

For the fortunate people not yet acquainted with the site, Goop is perhaps best known for calling on readers to put jade eggs inside their vaginas in the name of sexual empowerment. Side note: never do this. It also instructed readers to use coffee to clean out their colons and to lose weight by not eating. Read more…
