New ‘Game of Thrones’ images are all about Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen is ready for Winterfell, alright.

In a new batch of Game of Thrones Season 8 images released by Sky Atlantic, the UK’s show distributor, the Mother of Dragons is adjusting well at the Stark ancestral home.

With only a little over two weeks to go until the HBO drama returns for its final season, these images are providing all the fodder we need to help with our countdown.

However, the focus is clearly on Dany more than any other character. In one, she’s standing with Jorah Mormont in what appears to be Winterfell’s library — a newly constructed set — with a grim face. In another, she’s visibly blushing. Read more…

‘Game of Thrones’ had a safe word for Kit Harington during Battle of the Bastards shoot

TwitterFacebook

Sometimes it feels like fans need a safe word just to watch their favorites on Game of Thrones. So it only makes sense that the actors get a safe word for actually shooting those harrowing scenes too.

In a new Inside Game of Thrones featurette, camera operator Sean Savage talked about what it was like to film some of the most iconic scenes in TV history — from the Red Wedding to the Battle of the Bastards.

He also revealed that they provided Jon Snow actor Kit Harington with a “safe word so that we could call it off at any point” to shoot the most suffocating moment in the Bolton battle. The memorable shot wasn’t even scripted, as more and more stuntmen piled on top of Harington until all light closed around him.  Read more…

5 bizarre facts about Elizabeth Holmes ‘The Inventor’ left out

Here at Mashable, the Elizabeth Holmes obsession could not be stronger.

We’ve read the book, listened to the podcast, watched both of the documentaries — and have been wearing nothing but black turtlenecks for the past six days. (Okay, not really on that last part, but we have been blinking less.)

While Alex Gibney’s Theranos doc for HBO The Inventor took the internet by storm after its premiere last Monday, us Holmes aficionados know the two-hour film barely scratched the surface on this fascinating ex-CEO.

If you’re new to the Holmes craze, welcome! We’re so happy you’ve joined us. Now that you’re one of the crew, let’s round out your knowledge a bit beyond what the doc covered. Read more…

The ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 poster says it all

TwitterFacebook

The Game of Thrones Season 8 poster keeps things simple; this may be a rich and intricate story with enough characters and layers to fill thousands of pages – but it’s also about a bunch of warring royals and some dragons.

The final season’s poster returns to basics with a classic iron throne shot – but follow those swords down and you’ll see the hungry eyes of a dragon.

For a simple poster, there’s a lot to think about. For one thing, the Iron Throne is made of Valyrian steel swords, which are among the few weapons that can destroy White Walkers – this season’s number one enemy. What once was a throne for a monarch now looks like an arsenal to fight the Army of the Dead. Has anyone thought of taking this thing apart and using it as weapons? (We have a feeling Cersei might not approve.) Read more…

Can’t get enough of Elizabeth Holmes? Here’s what to watch after ‘The Inventor’

TwitterFacebook

Theranos ex-CEO Elizabeth Holmes has yet to lock down a date for her criminal trial, but in the court of public opinion, a verdict has already been rendered.

If you’ve been on the internet at all in the past week, you’ve likely seen a small truckload of viewer reactions to HBO’s The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley — many of them delighting in the damning portrayal of Holmes and her alleged multi-million dollar fraud.

But HBO wasn’t the first to profile the entrepreneur and they won’t be the last. From podcasts to movies, the now-defunct blood-testing company is the subject of a whole slew of projects, nearly all of which position Holmes as their star subject. Read more…

‘The Inventor’ is a monster movie. Elizabeth Holmes is its star.

“She didn’t blink.”

It’s a peculiar observation, but when ex-Theranos receptionist Cheryl Gafner makes it, it’s hard to shake — Elizabeth Holmes, the fraudster behind the now defunct blood testing company Theranos, doesn’t blink.

Or at least when she does blink, it is done with purpose, a cool and calculating gesture that accompanies a specific word or phrase. To Holmes, blinks are seemingly for conveying sincerity and establishing trust, not an involuntary response to, y’know, having eyeballs.

It’s an unsettling behavior to witness, particularly when put in the context of Holmes’ dangerous multi-million dollar fraud. But gaining awareness of creepy details like this one is an essential part of The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley viewing experience.  Read more…
