40 easy (and free) ways to feel festive this holiday season

TwitterFacebook

There’s a lot of pressure around the holiday season. It’s full of things for which it’s easy to have overblown expectations — New Year’s Eve, for example, and the unintentional friendship quality metric known as “giving gifts.” Not helping: the state of the world, which is bad.

It’s understandable, then, if you’re not feeling particularly festive. This year, I’ve struggled to get into the holiday spirit (whatever that is) and my lack of excitement is matched only by my guilt for its absence. It’s Christmas! What, within my extremely limited budget (zero dollars), can I do to feel more … holiday-ish? Read more…

This ‘Elf on the Shelf’ challenge might just make holiday travel bearable

TwitterFacebook

The Elf on the Shelf is taking to the skies.

In a festive move, the Vancouver airport has created an Elf on the Shelf-inspired photoshop challenge. On Monday, they shared a photo of Lil Wayne atop a plane, with the caption, “You’ve heard of Elf on the Shelf, now get ready for…”

— Vancouver Airport (@yvrairport) December 10, 2018

Since then, multiple airports (and airport adjacent companies) have been replying to the tweet with their own heavily doctored photos, using the same simple rhyme scheme. It’s a delightful variation on the Elf on a Shelf rhyming meme that surfaced last year, and the results are a reminder that the internet is actually quite good — sometimes. Read more…

You can’t escape the ‘Baby Shark’ song, not even in holiday light displays

TwitterFacebook

You’ve valiantly tried to run, block your ears, board up the windows, but there’s no escape the “Baby Shark” song. Not even holiday light displays are safe.

One ambitious house in Boerne, Texas has made sure of that, timing their Christmas light display to the infuriatingly catchy viral nursery song.

According to local CBS affiliate KENS5, the house is owned by the Hinojosa family, whose annual light display is a local neighbourhood highlight. Homeowner Beto Hinojosa told the broadcaster the display counts up to 100,000 lights do-do-do-do-do-do.

You can’t escape. Read more…

Oreo lovers rejoice, you can now listen to sweet cookie music on the all new mini Oreo record player.

The Oreo Music Box gift set includes classic, thin, and white fudge covered Oreos, as well as a metal tin, and a tiny record player that plays Oreo-themed music.

Just take a look at this beautiful cookie player:

Just in time for the holidays … a magnum bottle of ranch dressing

TwitterFacebook

The worst kind of snobs are salad dressing snobs. As anyone with *real tastebuds* knows, ranch dressing is the best kind of dressing.

Thankfully for some of us, Hidden Valley is releasing a giant magnum bottle of ranch dressing just in time for the holidays.

Call it a dumb corporate promotion if you want. I don’t care. There are thousands — perhaps even millions — of us out there who would love these enormous tubs of highly processed lard in their kitchen cabinet.

This particular bottle will hold 1.75 liters of ranch dressing, as compared to the standard eight ounces. It currently retails for $25 online, and goes on sale December 3.  Read more…
