The latest report by a UK oversight body set up to evaluation Chinese networking giant Huawei’s approach to security has dialled up pressure on the company, giving a damning assessment of what it describes as “serious and systematic defects” in its software engineering and cyber security competence. Although the report falls short of calling for […]

Huawei’s latest flagship phone, the P30 Pro, isn’t coming to the U.S. anytime soon.
A Huawei rep wouldn’t confirm it outright during my pre-brief of the device in London last week, but he did say the U.S. consumers will “find ways” to bring it …
EU calls for increased security, but doesn’t ban Huawei 5G products
The European Union’s current approach to potential cybersecurity threats posed by Huawei 5G products is caution, but not an outright ban. The topic was the subject of new recommendations issued by the E.U. this week in response to U.S. calls to boycott the electronics giant over fears around its connection to the Chinese government. The […]

Huawei unveils the P30 and P30 Pro
Huawei held a press conference today in Paris. And the company just unveiled its brand new flagship phone — the P30 and the P30 Pro. In many ways, this year’s update is a continuation of the P20 series — but everything has been upgraded. I played with both devices for a bit of time yesterday, […]

How do you improve smartphone photography? By doing everything you can to fix its biggest pain points. That, at least, is what Huawei has done with its new P30 Pro smartphone.
The Huawei P30 Pro (there’s also a slightly weaker but still quite capable P30), announced on Tuesday at an event in Paris, is designed to excel at things smartphones typically aren’t very good at: Night photography, zoom photography, and portrait photography.
I had some hands-on time with both devices at a pre-brief in London last week, and I can tell you that P30 Pro is a very nice phone — though its photographic powers will take some time to properly review. Read more…

It’s bad enough Huawei Chief Financial Official Wanzhou Meng, who was arrested last December in Vancouver on charges ranging from fraud to money laundering, faces decades of jail time.

According to the report, a court filing has revealed Meng had her iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Pro, and MacBook Air seized by Canadian police at the time of her arrest. Meng also had a Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Edition — the only Huawei product on her — taken as well with the Apple products. Read more…

Tensions between the U.S. and Huawei show no sign of easing.
