Grace Jones has never stopped being iconic.

During Paris Fashion Week, Jones hit the runway to cap off Zendaya’s collection of new clothing at the Tommy Hilfiger X Zendaya TommyNow show on Saturday, looking incredible in a gold bodysuit and striped blazer.

Scroll through Twitter, and you’ll see the trending hashtag #WomenInScience. February 11 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science: a time to recognize the ladies making the world a better place through science and technology.

Their success stories should really be celebrated every day, especially because science remains a male-dominated field. Less than 30 percent of the world’s researchers are women, according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics

Moving to a different city or country can be lonely. Here are some things that helped me cope.

TwitterFacebook

The decision to move from Copenhagen to London was an easy one. I was 26, recently unemployed, and single. So when I was offered a job in a cosmopolitan city with a population twice that of my home country, I said yes without much hesitation. I didn’t know anyone there, but shaking things up was exactly what I needed, so I rented out my apartment and left. I was excited.

We’re told that making big changes in life is invigorating. That exposing yourself to new things and new people is the only way to really get to know yourself. That to grow as a person, you must challenge yourself. I find this to be mostly true, but I’ve also discovered that actually uprooting yourself, thrilling as it may be, comes with its own set of challenges. Challenges that have taken time to develop coping strategies for.  Read more…

The history behind the ‘bread and roses’ theme to the London Women’s March

TwitterFacebook

“The worker must have bread, but she must have roses, too.” These were the words uttered on April 2, 1911 by a young Polish-born immigrant woman at a meeting at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House.

108 years later, the words “bread and roses” are the rallying cry at Women’s March London — which organisers are dubbing the “Bread and Roses March and Rally”. Protestors will wield flowers as they march from Portland Place to Trafalgar Square on Jan. 19 and they’re being encouraged to donate to local food banks.

Slack apologized for its misguided account bans, has reactivated closed accounts

TwitterFacebook

The banned Slack accounts are coming back.

On Friday evening, Slack issued a mea culpa for what some were calling “discriminatory” account bans, made in an effort to comply with U.S. economic sanctions.

“We acknowledge that we made several mistakes here,” Slack wrote in a blog post. “Our attempts to comply with these regulations were not well-implemented. In our communications, we did not treat our customers and other users with the respect they deserve.”

We made some mistakes this week when implementing updates to our U.S. trade embargoes and economic sanctions regulations compliance program. We’d like to offer an apology and an update on our course of action. You can read more here: https://t.co/Inscg9DzM1
