This artwork is a vending machine that dispenses ‘snacks’ based on your mood

Instead of crappy crisps, this vending machine dispenses something much better for your health — “snacks” based on your emotional needs.

An installation artwork in Sydney’s CBD by artists Elizabeth Commandeur and Mark Starmach, Intangible Goods is a special vending machine that’s filled with “conveniently packaged consumables for the mind.”

Yep, no classic chips or chocolate bars — you can find them in that other vending machine over there — instead you can pick some mind food. Each little packet is A$2 ($1.50) and has been designed by the artists alongside mental health professionals to contain products for specific emotional needs. Read more…

Ai Weiwei makes bold statement about the refugee crisis with giant inflatable boat

TwitterFacebook

Controversial Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has unveiled a colossal installation that’s a stark reminder of the global refugee crisis.

The human rights activist has brought a 196-foot-long inflatable installation to Sydney’s Cockatoo Island, as one of the cornerstones of this year’s Biennale of Sydney exhibition.

Titled Law of the Journey, and sitting inside the large Turbine Hall on the island, the work resembles a colossal black rubber life raft, bulging with hundreds of anonymous human figures wearing life jackets.

A giant metal slide has opened in one of the hottest cities in the U.S.

The ‘darkest building on Earth’ is at the Winter Olympic Games

“There’s something about this that’s so black, it’s like how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.”

Spinal Tap’s inane discussion of their pitch-black album cover is the best way we can get a handle on the brand-new pavilion unveiled at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.

A new project commissioned by Hyundai, British architect Asif Khan’s 10-meter-high temporary building has been erected specifically for the Games, which officially begin on Friday, Feb. 9.

In what’s being called “the darkest building on Earth,” Khan’s structure has employed a sprayable version of the ominous Vantablack pigment. Created by UK researchers in 2014 and trademarked by British artist Anish Kapoor, Vantablack is touted as the darkest known artificial substance in the world — it absorbs up to 99.965 percent of light that hits its surface.  Read more…
