‘Doctor Who’ actor Jenna Coleman’s embarrassing moment has the internet cringing

TwitterFacebook

There are some anecdotes that are just so embarrassing, you can’t help but cringe for the people involved.

And cringe we most certainly did when we read Jenna Coleman’s most embarrassing moment in an interview with the Guardian

The Doctor Who actor recounted the time she was buying a sandwich at Leeds train station when a man spoke to her.

“The man said to me: ‘Do you want to go for a drink?’ I said, ‘I am so sorry, I’ve got a boyfriend,'” said Coleman.

Little did she know, however, that the man wasn’t actually asking her out. “And he replied, ‘No, it’s a meal deal: if you take a sandwich, you can get a drink as well,'” Coleman continued.  Read more…

Fyre Festival designer Oren Aks says he’s proud of the work he did with FuckJerry

TwitterFacebook

You probably remember Oren Aks as the often exasperated former FuckJerry employee who was featured in the Hulu documentary Fyre Fraud.

The graphic designer managed the disastrous festival’s social media accounts but quit the company about six months after the festival fell apart. After Hulu’s documentary was released, Twitter users voiced their support (and thirst) for him — even Chrissy Teigen gave him a shout out.

Hi. It is me. Oren Aks. I’m actually the designer behind the festival. I’m happy to be here. Would love to make some cheese sandwiches with you @chrissyteigen sometime 🙃

Lena Headey is basically the only person still rooting for Cersei Lannister on ‘Game of Thrones’

TwitterFacebook

Sure, Cersei blew up half of King’s Landing, forced Ellaria Sand to watch her own daughter rot, tortured Tyrion well into adulthood, and committed a dozen other heinous crimes—but Lena Headey still has her back.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday night, the Game of Thrones star confirmed that she remains firmly on Team Lannister heading into the series’ final episodes.

“I’m gonna be honest, I’m not rooting for your character,” Kimmel said. “Are you rooting for her?”

“Someone has to,” Headey retorted.

Honestly? Fair. Check out the entire interview to catch up on details from Headey regarding the cast’s final goodbyes, the fate of Cersei’s “turnip” wig, Headey’s next big project, and more. Read more…

Hasan Minhaj might be the next great American storyteller

TwitterFacebook

I first saw Hasan Minhaj, creator of Netflix’s Patriot Act, in the fall of 2015. He was performing the early version of Homecoming King, which would become a groundbreaking Netflix special, at the 179-seat Cherry Lane Theater in the West Village. The audience was half-full, a respectable Thursday turnout, and a house manager came over to me and my friends and asked if we’d like to move up and sit in the front row.

For the next hour-plus, Minhaj spoke directly to us, as he does to the camera in large swathes of the 2016 Netflix special. To call it standup is to gravely oversimplify; it’s a one-man show, a seamless blend of humor and heart, and an entity unto itself. Read more…

Inside the cult of Ann Dowd: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ actress offers a masterclass in the art of antagonists

TwitterFacebook

Some spoilers for Compliance, True Detective: Season 1, The Leftovers, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Hereditary lie ahead.

Hollywood’s go-to malicious missionary, Ann Dowd, knows a thing or two about indoctrinating audiences. With over 30 years of stage, film, and television experience, Dowd has assumed the roles of politicians, doctors, mothers, FBI agents, and—as of late—lots and lots of cult members.

Gaining prominence in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, the notorious character actress has earned a reputation, as well as an Emmy, for getting into the minds of antagonistic zealots and delivering disturbingly convincing performances. Read more…

Sarah Palin tears into Sacha Baron Cohen after being ‘duped’ into fake interview

TwitterFacebook

Sarah Palin thought she was going to be in a “legit Showtime historical documentary.” Turns out, it was just a prank by trickster Sacha Baron Cohen.

For his anticipated new seven-episode series Who Is America? Cohen has apparently been filming interviews with U.S. politicians for a year — but often in disguise or undercover.

And that includes Palin, who says she was “duped” into travelling across the country with her daughter for an interview with Cohen, who “had heavily disguised himself as a disabled US Veteran, fake wheelchair and all.” The interview was apparently requested through a “speakers bureau.” Read more…

Stratis wants to be a one-stop-shop for ICOs

TwitterFacebook

When it comes to initial coin offerings or ICOs — crowdfunding events in which participants buy digital tokens from a startup — the London-based Stratis is one of the original gangsters. The company launched a successful ICO in June 2016, way back before the ICO craze, selling its STRAT tokens for $0.007 each.

The price of STRAT has skyrocketed to $6 since, earning early investors who never sold it more than 80,000% in returns. The coin’s market cap currently sits at $592 million, making STRAT the 41st largest cryptocurrency out there. But Stratis, which describes itself as blockchain for the enterprise, has been fairly quiet since in those two years, which is a very long time in cryptocurrency world.  Read more…
