Michelle Obama’s letter to her younger self is so tender it has broken me

TwitterFacebook

This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about one of the few nice things that happened this week

As a perfect person, it’s hard to imagine Michelle Obama having any doubts about herself. Hasn’t she always assumed that she was brilliant, graceful, and exceptionally good at gardening? Didn’t she always think that she would one day become one of the most powerful people in the world and achieve it by being … nice?

According to Obama’s new memoir, Becoming, she wasn’t always so confident.

Romance isn’t dead, folks.

This tweet about one woman’s parents’ long distance relationship will restore your faith in the power of love. Just trust us on this one.

Twitter user @sumacy posted photos of the letters her parents sent to one another when her mum was living in China and her dad was living in the U.S..

“My parents were in a long distance relationship for a few years after my dad moved to the U.S. but they kept in touch through these letters,” she wrote. “Do you hear me crying.”

Aspiring poet’s rejection letter from 1928 is delightfully brutal

TwitterFacebook

No one likes being rejected, especially when you receive a letter that gives your work an absolute dressing down.

Penned by Australian publisher Angus & Robertson in 1928, the letter is addressed to Frederick Charles Meyer of Katoomba, who had sent a sample of his writing to the company.

The letter was sent by Kylie Parkinson to the Twitter page Letters of Note, who posted it on Tuesday. You’d rarely come across a letter as stern, albeit eloquent as this.

Skeptical 6 year old shades Old St. Nick with a savage letter

TwitterFacebook

There’s comes a time in a person’s life when Santa Claus becomes merely a symbol of the holiday season rather than an actual big jolly guy jumping down your chimney with a bag filled with presents.

For some, that time may arrive around the age of 12 or 13, but for others, it may appear much sooner than expected.

NPR reporter and Twitter user, Sarah McCammon (@sarahmccammon), posted a photo of her skeptical 6 year old’s not-so-sweet letter to Father Christmas.

My 6yo Santa skeptic was told to write a letter to Santa at school. So he did..pic.twitter.com/XUFGMnXDFT
