Gayborhoods aren’t dead. In fact, there are more of them than you think.
Open up a travel guide and you’re likely to see multiple passages about where to find the local “gayborhood,” a neighborhood disproportionately populated by LGBTQ people. In San Francisco, there’s the Castro. In Chicago, you have Boystown. And in Mex…

2019 might just be another good year for LGBTQ people in film
When it comes to queer and trans representation, film has always lagged painfully behind everyone, even our dumbest mediums. I survived off the homosexual cheek-stroke scene in Foxfire for more than a decade before Blue is the Warmest Color and Paria…

Karen Pence’s anti-LGBTQ school to get 100 copies of John Oliver’s book about gay bunny
Second lady Karen Pence landed a new gig recently: teaching art at Immanuel Christian School, a private school in Virginia.
She previously taught at the K-8 school several years ago, when her husband Mike Pence was a congressman. But her return has prompted an outcry from LGBTQ advocates who say her involvement with a school that bars LGBTQ students, parents, and teachers sends the wrong message to vulnerable youth across the country.
That’s why the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ youth, sent 100 copies of A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo to Immanuel Christian. Published last year by “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” the children’s book parodies Vice President Mike Pence’s own book about his family’s pet bunny — and his views on homosexuality — while preaching acceptance for the bunny Marlon Bundo and his male bunny partner. (Sales of Marlon Bundo benefit the Trevor Project.) Read more…

Every Christmas, I look forward to one thing and one thing only: nativity drama.
There’s nothing more petty and more pure. Whether it’s pro-immigration pastors locking the baby Jesus in a cage to protest our border policies or a traditional cis white heteronormative nativity, everyone across the political spectrum has the opportunity to be offended this season.
I’m particularly thankful for America’s rich history of queer nativity scenes, which manage to incense the worst people on the internet every few years or so. What a blessing.
Who could be this angry about a pastoral scene? The internet, that’s who! Of course, not all queer nativity scenes incite fury, but when they do, it’s rul’ gross. Here are some of the queerest nativity depictions — those that made the news, and those that just made me happy on Twitter. Read more…

2018 has been a banner year for hot queer people on television. Growing up as a queer kid, this was kind of all I ever wanted (besides being accepted for “who I was,” blah blah blah).
But that’s the not the only form of progress. Wherever you look (that’s not the Trump White House), queer people have been making headway — in Congress, film, music, theater, and on social media.
The queers are taking over, and for good.
Just look at all the strangely uplifting facts before us: Queer and trans people had a record-shattering year on television. They broke absurd amounts of ground in government. They made some charmingly slubby and kind cis men look handsome and good. Read more…
