This $20 top-rated app is meant to boost the functionality of your Mac dock

TwitterFacebook

Even though macOS is often regarded as the best designed operating system out there, it could still use some improvements.

For starters, the dock — which holds the app we use on the regular — is way overdue for an upgrade. Its last major overhaul came with the introduction of the Mac OS X 10.0 which was launched in 2001. Like, if the Dock were a person, it can already vote in the presidential elections next year.

To be fair, there’s nothing particularly wrong about the dock. But it’s just… there. And although it is central to how we interact with the Mac, it doesn’t really do much aside from providing quick access to programs. Read more…

2013 Mac Pro wasn’t built in the U.S. because Apple couldn’t get enough screws, report says

In 2012, Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly announced that one line of Apple’s Mac products will be made in the United States.
Well, it never happened for precisely the reasons you’d think of: Supply chain issues. More precisely, according to a New York Tim…

Four years. That’s how long it took for Apple to finally update the Mac mini.

Why did it take so long? Call it serious neglect, overshadowed by the tremendous growth of the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It really doesn’t matter anymore because Apple finally updated its most affordable Mac.

I requested a review unit to evaluate just how much value somebody could squeeze from the $799 Mac mini, but Apple left me hanging. So I bought my own to find out. Read more…

4 apps to help your Mac run better

TwitterFacebook

“To be, or not to be?” Sorry, Hamlet — that’s not the question anymore. In this digital day and age, it’s more like, “Why doesn’t Apple offer better solutions for cloud storage, data synchronization, and video downloading on Macs?”

The solution to that pressing issue, dear reader, can be found within ye olde Mac Power User Bundle.

Created by Eltima Software, the bundle includes four top apps that’ll enhance your Mac’s already-pretty-decent functionality without breaking the bank. We normally sell the whole set for $19.99 — a fraction of its $124.80 MSRP — but for a limited time, you can score it for an even better price. Read more…

Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge is real, and it’s coming to the Mac

TwitterFacebook

Recent rumors were real: Microsoft’s Edge will become a Chromium-based browser.

Microsoft’s Corporate VP Joe Belfiore revealed the news in a blog post Thursday, saying the company intends to “to adopt the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop.”

Here’s the kicker: Microsoft plans to bring this new, Chromium-based Edge browser to the Mac.

According to Belfiore, Microsoft plans to make the switch to Chromium “over the next year or so.”

For users, this means better compliance with web standards and other Chromium-based browsers such as Google’s Chrome and Opera. Microsoft also plans to deliver and update Edge more frequently to all supported versions of Windows. And, finally, Microsoft hopes that its participation in the Chromium project will make other Chromium-based browsers better on Windows devices.  Read more…
