The company behind YouCam Makeup app launches a new set of AR tools for beauty brands like Ulta

Released in 2014, the year before Snapchat put face filters on the road to ubiquity, Perfect Corp’s YouCam Makeup app gave many smartphone users their first taste of augmented selfies. At the beginning, it let users experiment with different makeup looks and portrait-editing tools. Since then, YouCam Makeup has expanded beyond selfies into e-commerce and […]

Dick appointment makeup tutorials are the only good beauty guru niche left

TwitterFacebook

Dick appointment makeup tutorials are the only good thing left from beauty YouTube.

As cuffing season picks up, people are bound to schedule a quick dick appointment. But how do you make sure your makeup stays flawless through the hook up, and be reminded to have safe, consensual sex? Beauty guru YouTube is here for you.

The term “dick appointment” is self-explanatory; Urban Dictionary defines it as “to set up an appointment to have sex with a man.” A second entry clarifies that “no feelings are involved” in the interaction. Unlike a drunk one night stand you bring home from a party or a late night “u up?” text, a dick appointment is often premeditated — which gives the appointee some time to actually prepare for it.  Read more…

Birchbox review: A great subscription box for skincare enthusiasts looking to discover new brands

TwitterFacebook

Birchbox
$10/month
The Good

Super customizable • Loyalty points for discounts • Extra focus on skin and hair care • Great value for the price

The Bad

Samples can be tiny • Less than stellar customer service • Repeated products

The Bottom Line

For skin and hair obsessives, these monthly samples are a clutch way to discover new products — just don’t expect a $10 box to singlehandedly stock your collection.

The makeup world is officially taking over. This $60 billion industry continues to grow and according to Statista, “consumers have been spending higher levels of disposable income on cosmetics than they had in the past.” In fact, during economic hard times, buyer interest in cosmetics stays steady — something economists have cheekily dubbed the “lipstick effect.” Read more…

Ipsy has a new $25 Glam Bag subscription with full-sized items and we are in heaven

TwitterFacebook

Heads up, makeup addicts: There’s a new makeup subscription box to drop monthly coin on, and it’s one we’ve been (not so) patiently waiting for.

Subscription beauty brand ipsy just debuted their new Glam Bag Plus, and yes, it’s exactly what you’re thinking — filled with all full-sized products instead of their usual samples. Bless.

Before this week, Boxycharm was basically the only beauty subscription box to offer monthly doses of full-sized items from mainstream brands. Meanwhile, Birchbox, ipsy, and Play! by Sephora were battling it out to see who could pack the most value via samples (and maybe one full-sized item) into a $10 box. Read more…

Ipsy’s new subscription delivers full-size beauty products, not samples

Ipsy, the beauty box subscription service and e-commerce site founded in 2011 by YouTube creator Michelle Phan, is expanding its business beyond sample-sized products. The company today is debuting a more expensive “Glam Bag Plus” subscription, which will ship customers five full-sized products for $25 per month. The move aims to capitalize on Ipsy’s established customer […]

8 of the best subscription boxes for beauty addicts

What’s the only thing better than going on shopping spree to Sephora and buying things you definitely don’t need? Having a shopping spree delivered right to your house and spending way less than you would in the store for the same amount of stuff.

That’s right, ya’ll, we’re talking about beauty subscription boxes. These are a clutch way to discover new brands and decide if you like a product before buying it at full price, especially when you’re too lazy to return stuff to the store (raises hand). The best part is that these boxes are always valued significantly more than what you’re paying — so you could end up paying $25 for a box that contains $150 worth of stuff. One tiny item at the store is usually $25. Who’s gonna say no to finessing the system like that? Read more…

Beauty YouTubers are making their pets pick out their makeup in a delightful new challenge

YouTube’s video recommendations are mostly a collection of the worst that the platform has to offer. It wasn’t until a video titled “My cats pick my makeup” popped up that I finally felt seen.
It’s true what they say, technology is advancing.
As a lo…
