Acer Mixed Reality Headset gets the VR experience right

The best test of any virtual reality system is how quickly can you forget you’re wearing a virtual reality system? By this measure alone, Acer’s Windows Mixed Reality Headset (and the included motion controllers) is a very good VR system.

Within minutes of donning the headset and finding a VR game to play, I lost myself in the experience. And it wasn’t just me. Each person I asked to try Acer’s headset has the same reaction, especially when I dropped them into the excellent Super Hot virtual reality game.

Google Pixel Buds review: They’re great… if you own a Pixel phone

Apple’s AirPods pair perfectly with iPhones, but what do you get if you own a Google Pixel 2? As of now, that’s a no-brainer: Pixel Buds.

Google’s own take on wireless earbuds isn’t just great for music — the headphones sound a little better than AirPods — but they’re also loaded with intelligence thanks to the company’s Assistant and real-time translation features that could change communication as we know it.

It’s impossible to test out the Pixel Buds and not compare them to AirPods. They share many similarities and differences. 

They both cost $159, which is really reasonable for wireless earbuds. Many others wireless earbud models, like the Samsung Gear IconX, cost $199 or more. Read more…

iPhone X review: This changes everything

Apple’s iPhone X is the beginning of something new.

Holding the iPhone X in my hand triggers a distinct memory of the moment I first cradled the original iPhone. The sensation lingers as I caress the surgical steel band that wraps around the phone and I feel the cool glass back against my palm. Waking the phone snaps me back to the present. I’m suddenly unmoored as my eyes dart across the nearly unblemished Super Retina OLED screen, searching desperately for the home button.

There is no home button, just a stunning 5.8-inch screen that hugs the edge, reaching for the silver band that’s just millimeters away. All of it is so beautiful, save for that peninsula of darkness at the top — the notch that intrudes on the otherwise perfect industrial design of the iPhone X, but also proves critical to its operation and serves as yet another signal that this is not just another iPhone.
