TwitterFacebook

If you’re a YouTube Partner uploading someone else’s work, beware. YouTube is checking in on you and might revoke your Partner privileges.

In a post on the company’s official help forum, YouTube announced that it’s doubling down on efforts to curb abuse within the YouTube Partner Program. Specifically, a YouTube spokesperson outlined in the post that it’s cracking down on a policy regarding channels posting “duplicative content.”

Now you can buy movie tickets or book a vacation right from a YouTube ad

TwitterFacebook

YouTube ads are about to get a lot more interactive.

The Google-owned video platform today announced a brand-new video advertising option that will allow users to buy or download what the ad is advertising — straight from the ad itself.

Before this announcement, advertisers had a more limited selection of interactive ad extentions from YouTube. Location extensions, for instance, can point viewers to a place related to the ad that’s close to them.

Now, advertisers will have a lot more options when it comes to these interactive extensions. For example, a movie trailer advertiser could show users local showtimes that they can click through and be taken straight to a site like Fandango or Atom. Viewers could also potentially download an app or booking a trip through these kinds of new YouTube ad extensions. Read more…

YouTube just made a major change to its trending page

TwitterFacebook

Days after shuttering its dedicated gaming app, YouTube made some more big changes to how users discover content.

Now, YouTube’s trending tab breaks down what’s popular in five categories: music, live, gaming, news, and movies.

Trending on YouTube previously just displayed what videos were trending throughout a user’s country. YouTube said its algorithm takes a number of factors into consideration, such as view count and the rate of growth in views, among others.

Here's what the Trending on YouTube page looked like just earlier today.

TwitterFacebook

Slack is down so I had no choice but to look up from my monitor and wonder… wait a sec… who are these people sitting all around me?? My COLLEAGUES? We are all corralled in a physical space to talk to each other in the face, and not just with dancing emoji? Neat!

Slack reported outages around 9:30 E.T. on Wednesday. Messages failed to send, and Slack couldn’t connect to the internet.

Company culture and importance of first impressions

TwitterFacebook

First impressions count.

On this episode of “Masters of Scale,” entrepreneur Margaret Heffernan talks about how your company culture is reflected in the person people interact with first: your receptionist.

“If you want to build a strong culture, the first thing you have to do is open your eyes,” “Masters of Scale” host and LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman says to Heffernan. “You have to start observing your culture the instant you arrive at the office — as soon as you walk through the front door.” Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Using a news magazine cover to make a statement about president Donald Trump is something of a cottage industry these days, but that didn’t stop Time and The Economist from dropping more covers directed at the 45th president.

The new Time cover takes direct aim at Trump’s recent efforts to undermine Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion and obstruction of justice by Trump’s campaign team in the lead up to the 2016 election.

Facebook needs to stick up for its users. It’s past time for a public editor.

TwitterFacebook

Facebook is facing hard questions following news that data-mining firm Cambridge Analytica deceived users and harvested information from 50 million profiles. But we already have the answer to one: Has Facebook learned from its mistakes? Nope.

That’s probably because Facebook doesn’t have a dedicated staffer — or public editor — looking out for the people who use the company’s service. Consider this: Cambridge Analytica’s data-scraping reportedly occurred in 2014, the same year Facebook made another fateful decision that it might not have if someone there was looking out for people like you and me.
