Merriam-Webster shared its website’s new “Time Traveler” feature on Thursday, and it’s honestly super fun.

The Time Traveler section of the site allows users to see which words first appeared in print the year they were born.

All you need to do is simply plug in the year you were born and voila! You’ll have access to a size-able number of words introduced that year.

Merriam-Webster subtweeted about Trump’s child separation policy

TwitterFacebook

Merriam-Webster’s Twitter account is famed for not being here for your BS — or that of the Department of Homeland Security.

On Sunday, DHS secretary Kirstjen Nielsen declared her agency doesn’t “have a policy of separating families at the border,” despite extensive reports contradicting the claim.

When asked by CNN’s Jeff Zeleny on Monday whether the separation policy was tantamount to child abuse, Nielsen claimed that most children were sent to the border alone, and there were “high standards” for the detention centres these children were housed in.  Read more…

Merriam-Webster burns Trump over misspelling in one of his very worst tweets

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump sent some awful tweets on Monday morning about his administration’s policy of separating children from their parents at our border — which it turns out is a word he cannot even spell.

In one of a series of very terrible tweets, Trump misspelled “border” as “boarder,” hardly the first typo he’s made but one that’s all the more glaring because of his obsession with “The Wall” and that aforementioned inhumane policy that is currently being enforced. Read more…

Merriam-Webster searches for ‘slimeball’ up 60,000% after Trump’s tweet about Comey

TwitterFacebook

After President Trump’s tweet describing former FBI director James Comey as a “slimeball,” Merriam-Webster dictionary says searches for the word are up by 60,000 percent.

The president called Comey a “proven LEAKER & LIAR” in a series of tweets improperly strung together on Friday morning.

“He lied to Congress under OATH,” Trump tweeted. “He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a terrible Director of the FBI.”

James Comey is a proven LEAKER & LIAR. Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the terrible job he did-until he was, in fact, fired. He leaked CLASSIFIED information, for which he should be prosecuted. He lied to Congress under OATH. He is a weak and…..

In the Simpsons episode “Lisa the Iconoclast,” the children of Springfield are shown a video telling the story of the town’s founder, Jebediah Springfield. In the propaganda film, Springfield speaks these immortal words.

“A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.”

The children cheer, and teacher Edna Krabappel says:

To which fellow teacher Miss Hoover replies:
