Foot Locker is taking a stake in the subscription-based shopping service, Rockets of Awesome – a startup that’s something of a “StitchFix for kids,” in that it sends out a personalized selection of children’s apparel in seasonal boxes, shipped to customers’ homes. The companies announced today that Foot Locker has made a $12.5 million minority […]

Women’s invisible labor leaves them feeling empty, study finds

TwitterFacebook

Invisible labor is a benign way of describing the never-ending, sometimes soul-crushing to-do list that women manage in order to keep their children thriving and households running smoothly.

You might recognize the broader concept of unappreciated yet essential household work from a 2017 digital comic strip on “mental load.” Countless women saw their own exhaustion and simmering resentment in the comic’s feminist rendering of why women end up taking on tiny tasks like unloading the dishwasher to huge decisions like choosing a nanny. Of course, it went viral.

A new study, published Tuesday in the journal Sex Roles, offers original data to illustrate the widespread phenomenon of invisible labor — and its depressing impact on women’s emotional and psychological well-being.  Read more…

Moms really, really love Netflix

TwitterFacebook

The gift of health is precious, but the gift of distraction is… priceless.

The polling company YouGov releases an annual Top 10 list for how brands rank in value, satisfaction, and other metrics — among moms. This year, the brand that received the top spot is everyone’s favorite streaming service: Netflix.

Netflix edged out Band-Aid for the top spot. Yes, Moms think (slightly) better of a TV and movie streaming service, than they do the healer of scraped knees. Honestly, checks out.

When the moms love you, you know you're in.

Jiobit launches its more secure, modular child location tracker starting at $100

To date, child location trackers have failed to live up to consumer expectations. They’ve arrived as oversized, bulky watches too large for little wrists, and some have even been designed so insecurely, that it would be safer to not use them at all. A new kid tracker from Jiobit, launching today, wants to address these […]

8 TV moms we’d love to have around in real life

TwitterFacebook

All that we are, or hope to be, we owe to our parents — both real and fictional.

While biological moms deserve major props for seeing us through our formative years, serving as role models, and literally giving us life, we must never forget all the comfort and wisdom that TV moms bestowed upon us over the years.

Through our television, laptop, and phone screens, we’ve watched as mothers on our favorite television shows shared relationship, career, and life advice with their on-screen children. We listened to their words, taking them as seriously as we would our own mother’s, and grew to love the characters so deeply that we wished they were real people. Read more…

Teen’s message to mom who starred in Taylor Swift’s new music video will make you cry

TwitterFacebook

Moms are the freaking best and do not receive nearly enough praise for all the good they do in this world. Oddly, it took Taylor Swift’s new music video for “Delicate” to remind me of this fact.

After Swift’s music video premiered during the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 11, 17-year-old Megumi Cheng tweeted a heartwarming message of praise to her mother, Junko Cheng, who made a cameo in the video.

“This is my mom. She’s 57 and felt like pursuing acting recently… mostly for shits and giggles, but here she is. So beautiful,” Cheng’s teenage daughter tweeted alongside three still shots of her from the music video. Read more…
