Harley Davidson reveals more about its push into electric vehicles

Harley Davidson released new specs for its electric motorcycle and pulled the covers off the concept designs for its electric bicycle and scooter as the company’s push into electrifying its product line continues.

And the company showed that going electric doesn’t mean losing any of the muscle that’s intrinsic to the Harley Davidson chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected brand. In fact, the 2019 EV debut can out-accelerate any of the company’s gas motorcycles, according to specs released today at CES.

This electric motorcycle runs on 15 parts made via 3D printer

Ready to upgrade from your e-scooter?

The NERA electric motorcycle is a functioning bike that was made using a 3D printer. The only catch — it’s just a “use case” example for a German 3D printing company to show off its material-making skills.

Even if it’s not for sale, it’s an impressive print job from the NOWlab at 3D printer company BigRep. Printed in 15 pieces, the NERA bike actually runs on an electric engine embedded in the back rim. The battery is housed within the body.

Everything but the bike’s electrical components were 3D-printed, including the tires, rims, frame, fork (the part that connects the front wheel and axle to the frame), and seat.  Read more…

Tarform debuted new e-motorcycles but is there a U.S. market?

With more failures in the electric motorcycle industry than going concerns and a contracting American motorcycle market, now would seem to be an odd time to launch a new bike into the EV arena. But Tarform, a new startup that unveiled its first vehicle last month in Brooklyn, is undeterred. That’s despite the fact that the […]

Harley-Davidson designed this obscene, $1.8 million motorcycle with a Swiss jeweler

TwitterFacebook

Go big or go extravagant.

That’s the philosophy behind the Harley-Davidson jewel-encrusted motorcycle from Swiss watch maker and jeweler Bucherer. The custom-built Blue Edition bike took 2,500 hours to put together. It’s basically an extreme version of the company’s Blue Edition watch series.

It’s truly almost too much to take in. It has 360 diamonds throughout. It features a diamond ring — a diamond band encircling a 5.40-carat diamond — and watch on display under glass domes. And every screw is plated with rose gold. The cowhide saddle is handmade. On top of all that, the engine compartment lights up in blue. The frame, rims, and gearbox match with an iridescent blue coat of paint. Read more…

Ford’s motorcycle-car hybrid looks like a sad Prius V

TwitterFacebook

At the very least, Ford’s latest hybrid concept will probably get suburban dads excited — a detachable electric motorcycle within a car.

The car company’s new concept design sounds like something straight out of a James Bond storyline (again, dads), but according to its patent filing published last week, Ford just wants to make it easier for people to get around.

Spotted by Autoweek, Ford filed the idea in October for a motorcycle that sits within a small sedan — not as a sidecar, but inside the car. The electric motorcycle fits between the driver and passenger seats. Read more…
