Jimmy Fallon challenged YouTube star JoJo Siwa to an ‘aggressive dance-off’

There are dance-offs, and then there are “aggressive dance-offs.”

Jimmy Fallon challenged wildly popular 15-year-old YouTube dancer and pop star JoJo Siwa, known for her appearances on Lifetime’s Dance Moms and Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, to one heck of a dance challenge on Monday night’s show.

“I don’t want to know who can dance the best, I want to know who can dance the hardest,” said Fallon on Monday’s The Tonight Show.

Yeah, with that dance-heavy resume, you’re probably already thinking this sequin-clad teenager had it in the bag. She did. Read more…

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ is starting to look a lot like Star Wars

The Star Trek franchise desperately wants to be more like its younger, sexier, more lucrative cousin, Star Wars. This isn’t a new notion. It was an accusation leveled at the shiny J.J. Abrams reboot movies in 2009 and 2012 — right before Abrams, a Star Wars fan as a kid, dumped Trek directing to go helm The Force Awakens

In the case of Star Trek: Discovery, which returned for its second season on CBS’ streaming service Thursday night, it isn’t just a game of spot the similarities. New showrunner Alex Kurtzman has invited comparison by just coming right out and saying it: he wants more Wars in his Trek.  Read more…

This resurfaced video of *NSYNC doing the Pokémon rap is so cringeworthy it’s perfect

The ’90s were a great decade for many reasons, the sheer number of boybands being just one of them.

It was also the decade where we first got into Pokémon, long before they became interactive characters to be caught all over town with your phone in augmented reality.

A video has now resurfaced combining these two ’90s phenomena, and it’s truly the perfect dose of ’90s nostalgia.

On Twitter, podcaster @DinosaurDracula shared a video that features *NSYNC doing a cover version of the “Pokérap,” a rap song that pretty much just consists of a list of Pokémon names.   Read more…

Jake Gyllenhaal discusses the day he saw Stephen Colbert’s entire penis

Jake Gyllenhaal is not new to The Late Show. In fact the last appearance he made — playing an orphan boy opposite an underwear-less Ebeneezer Scrooge/Stephen Colbert for the Midterm Election special — was clearly quite a memorable one.

“Yes, that was the day I saw your entire penis,” Gyllenhaal reminds Colbert in the clip above.

What follows are plenty of puns (“It’s not a long… day,” chips in Colbert), some talk about who the favourite Gyllenhaal is (an old clip of Colbert telling Maggie it was her is resurfaced), and finally a bit about Gyllenhaal’s upcoming Mysterio debut.

But it all comes back to the penis in the end. Read more…

M. Night Shyamalan got a brutal reaction from his dad when said he was going to film school

M. Night Shyamalan’s dad is so proud of his son these days that he apparently pays for everything — even gum — with a credit card — just so people will see his last name.

But it wasn’t always that way. Back when a young M. Night Shyamalan first broke the news of his showbiz career plans to his family — who are all doctors — his father wasn’t exactly impressed.

“My dad was watching a hockey game and I said, ‘Dad I applied to NYU film school, I got in as a scholarship, and I’m gonna go’, and he didn’t even look at me,” Shyamalan tells Stephen Colbert in the clip above. “He just kept watching the game.” Read more…
