Energizer’s 18,000mAh battery phone is as thick as 3 normal phones

TwitterFacebook

You want a big battery? OK, but be prepared for some downsides.

Energizer, the battery company, is now building phones (a whole bunch of them, too), and one of the most interesting devices they brought to the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona is an 18,000mAh battery phone.

Yes, that’s 18,000mAh — roughly seven times the capacity of the 2,659mAh battery in the iPhone XS.

The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop is actually quite an interesting device. Besides that humongous battery, it has a 6.2-inch notch-less screen, a triple, 12/5/2-megapixel rear camera, a dual, 16/2-megapixel pop-up camera, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It runs on Mediatek’s Helio P70 chip and comes with Android 9.0.  Read more…

Xiaomi has a 5G phone and its killer feature is the price

TwitterFacebook

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is known for launching full-featured phones with low prices, and the company’s event ahead of the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona did not stray far from that concept.

On Sunday, Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 3 5G, a powerful phone with 5G capabilities that costs 599 euros ($680).

The Mi Mix 3 5G is exactly the same as the regular Mi Mix 3, only it comes with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 chips and the company’s X50 5G modem. Xiaomi claims the X50 allows for really fast 5G performance; one example says users will be able to download a 15-minute 1,080p video, or twenty-six 320 Kbps mp3 files, in just 1 second.  Read more…

LG has already told us some details about its upcoming devices, but now a leaked photo (courtesy of leaker Evan Blass) shows the LG G8 ThinQ from all sides.

Microsoft teases HoloLens 2 in new video

TwitterFacebook

Microsoft might announce the new generation of its mixed reality headset, the HoloLens, at an event later this month.

On Monday, Microsoft’s Technical Fellow for AI Perception and Mixed Reality in the Cloud (you gotta love Microsoft’s job titles), Alex Kipman, published a teaser video for the event, and it sure makes it look like HoloLens 2 is coming.

The video, titled “2.24.19 #MWC19” — the date and tagline for the event held one day before the official start of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona — is quite mysterious. Lumps of silicon are turned into chips, ice cubes melt, optical fibre intertwines — it’s all nice to look at but doesn’t really tell us much about the upcoming device.  Read more…
