Instagram is down, your cute cat photo will have to wait

Popular ad platform image sharing platform Instagram is down, apparently globally. 

The desktop version of the site only produces an ugly “5xx Server Error” text — we don’t even get a nice image. Mobile version of the app also isn’t responding. 

Instagram outages aren’t all that uncommon — we’ve seen quite a few over the years — but this one appears to be total. We’ve tried accessing the site from the U.S., Australia and several European countries and the result was the same.

Down Detector currently shows people complaining about Instagram being down in these regions as well, though there aren’t too many complaints right now.  Read more…

UPDATE: Aug. 3, 2018, 10:04 a.m. PDT About 45 minutes after Facebook went down it appears the social media platform has resolved its issues and the site and app are back up and running. A Facebook spokesperson said in an email, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble connecting to Facebook and it has since been resolved.” 

Other information, like the extent of the brief outage, was not immediately available.

Try going to Facebook.com on your browser, and you’ll probably see nothing this morning. 

Just after 9 a.m. PT, users started posting on Twitter about the social media site not loading. For many users the site was just a blank white page. Read more…
