The Seine is overflowing, but these archival photos of 1910 Paris show this has happened before

The Seine is flooding in Paris, but it’s not the first time.

On Tuesday, the Seine’s water level was sitting at 16 feet — the current flood emergency level is “orange,” the highest warning below “red.” But in 1910, Parisians had to hop aboard rowboats, make deliveries through windows, and construct makeshift pathways through the City of Lights when the Seine rose to 28 feet, causing what’s known as the Great Flood of Paris. 

Italian weekly newspaper La Domenica del Corriere published an illustration of the floods on its front cover on Jan. 30, 1910. It’s a wildly over-the-top but undeniably effective representation of the city’s situation: Citizens tumbling out of trains into row boats, using wood for pathways and being carried above the water level. Paris asks Airbnb to delist 1,000 apartments

 The city of Paris’ officials told the AFP that they have asked Airbnb and competing platforms to comply with new regulation. Why someone would want to risk dropping hot soup in their lap without a pants barrier is beyond me, but yet, the world continues to enjoy nude dining.

Naked restaurants, where folks are invited to dine in the buff, have been popping up in major cities around the world — and Paris is the latest.

Following big openings (sorry) in London and Tokyo in 2016, Paris has welcomed the arrival of O’naturel, the city’s first naturist restaurant, reports Le Parisien.

Located in a small, unassuming street in the 12th arrondissement, sporting heavy blackout curtains, the 40-seat restaurant encourages longtime nudists and newbie nudies alike to leave their belongings in the cloakroom and dine in “complete freedom.” Read more…
