Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl, poles now being climbed

TwitterFacebook

It’s party time in Philly.

The Philadelphia Eagles ended a 57-year gap between championships by beating the New England Patriots on Sunday, claiming their first ever Super Bowl title.

When the Eagles won the NFC championship two weeks ago, the city descended into relative chaos as fans ascended Crisco-greased poles designed to keep them from doing so.

Ahead of the Super Bowl, police opted for hydraulic fluid (a.k.a. motor oil) as a deterrent.

Philadelphia pole climbers: meet your match tonight. As predicted, no Crisco on the poles. Instead, police are using hydraulic fluid. And it’s water resistant, too, they said, so this afternoon’s rain won’t make it any easier for you to climbpic.twitter.com/5GvI9BRhaQ

Pornhub offers 110 gallons of lube to the city of Philadelphia for its dry pole problem

TwitterFacebook

The Philadelphia Police Department announced it won’t grease up the city’s light poles for the Super Bowl, so Pornhub is offering them 110 gallons of lube.

Earlier this month, the city of Philadelphia decided to grease up some of the city’s light poles with Crisco in an attempt to thwart any unruly sports fans from climbing up and inevitably injuring themselves following the NFC Championship game.

Apparently, the Crisco didn’t work all that well — instead, it became a challenge for anyone daring to test their luck at the poles. Also, Crisco is flammable, so the whole thing posed a serious safety hazard. Read more…

Philadelphia greased poles to stop Eagles fans from climbing them. It didn’t work.

TwitterFacebook

The last time the Philadelphia Eagles were in the Super Bowl, we only just started using MySpace and the iPod was still some newfangled thing.

So it’s no wonder the city was extra careful in the lead up to the Eagles NFC Championship game against the Minnesota Vikings, because a win — taking the team to the Super Bowl — would have the place in raptures.

Last week, businesses were also warned to put everything they owned inside and keep security cameras on. Then there were the crews dubbed “Crisco Cops” who greased poles to stop people from climbing on top of them.  Read more…

Chrissy Teigen and the rest of the internet bewildered by Philadelphia’s #CriscoCops

TwitterFacebook

Football fandom is a helluva thing.

Philadelphia officials are so concerned over the possibility of rioting on Sunday night, after the city’s Eagles face off against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Game, that they’re resorting to extreme measures: Crews are greasing up light poles to stop people from climbing them.

The effort even has its very own hashtag: #CriscoCops.

A Philadelphia grandfather was buried with his beloved cheesesteaks

TwitterFacebook

Philadelphians are fueled by three things: brotherly love, the certainty that whatever year it is currently is going to be the Eagles’ year, and a deep passion for cheesesteaks.

One local resident loved Philly cheesesteaks so deeply that he asked his family to bury him with them.

Before Richard Lussi, 76, passed away on Oct. 10 from heart complications, he would frequently joke about being buried with something to eat in the afterlife. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Lussi told his son John and grandson Dominic that he’d like that something to be a cheesesteak from Pat’s — one of Philadelphia’s famous cheesesteak restaurants.
