Watch Boeing refuel a huge military tanker mid-flight

Boeing successfully refueled a KC-46 Pegasus tanker from a fellow tanker — mid-air.

Boeing transferred 146,000 pounds of fuel from one plane to another after taking off from Boeing Field, near Seattle.

Here’s a video of the mid-air fuel transfer. The fuel was off-loaded at a rate of 1,200 gallons per minute.

NASA believes its supersonic X-Plane will slice our cross-country flight times in half

TwitterFacebook

Most of the pricey machines NASA outlined in a 2019 budget proposal this week — a 32-story mega-rocket, moon landers, and Mars rover — will be launched to Earth’s orbit or beyond.

But aside from those big-ticket items, the space agency’s budget also requests funding for a curious airplane that currently exists only in sketches and the minds of NASA engineers: The X-Plane.

This aircraft is designed to travel faster than the speed of sound, and to do so relatively quietly, without sending sonic boom sound waves into unsuspecting neighborhoods thousands of feet below. If it works, NASA’s X-Plane could revolutionize flight, cutting flight times in half and changing the way we fly.  Read more…

A pilot drew a massive heart in the sky using flight radar

In case you hadn’t already spotted the onslaught of heart-shaped everything in the shops, it’s Valentine’s Day.

And, one cheeky pilot decided to have a bit of fun by drawing a giant love heart in the sky. The Virgin Atlantic pilot—who was out on a training flight—took a heart-shaped route off the coast of Cornwall, UK.

The love-heart flight path was visible on FlightRadar24.com, and was first spotted by eagle-eyed plane spotter Philip Davis.
