‘Time’ latest Trump cover shows him singin’ in the rain

TwitterFacebook

Trump’s back on the cover of Time, but now instead of drowning in the Oval Office he’s shown walking outside, singing in the rain.

Since 2017, Time Magazine has visually depicted the president’s controversial, ever-changing narrative through dramatic cover art illustrated by Tim O’Brien. The imagery has grown increasingly troublesome for Trump over the years — with the third installment, titled “In Deep,” essentially showing him drowning in his office — but the latest cover took quite a turn.

O’Brien’s “Just Singin'” art for Time‘s April 9 issue shows Trump was able to escape the storm raging in his office, take a walk outside, and gleefully sing in the rain.  Read more…

7 of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s most inspirational speeches

TwitterFacebook

Since Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was elected to Congress, she’s brought a refreshing and powerfully passionate energy to Washington, DC.

When she isn’t mastering the art of the Twitter takedown, sharing her social media skills with fellow Democrats, or answering interview questions as candidly as possible, the 29-year-old is making insightful speeches that effectively communicate her personal beliefs and challenge the American people to rethink our power structures and national priorities.

Whether she’s at a protest or on the House floor, Ocasio-Cortez never shies away from expressing her opinions, no matter how bold. She delivers her messages calmly and succinctly, and though she’s only been on the job for a few months, she’s already made several memorable — and quotable — speeches. Read more…

Senators demand to know why election vendors still sell voting machines with ‘known’ vulnerabilities’

Four senior senators have called on the largest U.S. voting machine makers to explain why they continue to sell devices with “known vulnerabilities,” ahead of upcoming critical elections. Stephen Colbert calls the Mueller report conclusion ‘worse than the finale of ‘Lost”

TwitterFacebook

It was a lengthy, almost two-year wait for the Mueller report to be delivered, and Stephen Colbert thought it was, well, anticlimactic.

In a monologue opening The Late Show on Monday, Colbert said the report’s findings, which found that there was no proof of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia, was “worse than the finale of Lost.”

“What about the smoke monster, was it real or not? And if not, why have so many members of Trump’s campaign plead guilty to lying about meeting with the smoke monster?” Colbert quipped.

“Why couldn’t this have been like the ending of Seinfeld? Still disappointing, but at least they’re all in jail.” Read more…

This fake Mueller report is the ultimate troll

TwitterFacebook

We got got.

Special counsel Robert Mueller delivered his report to the Attorney General on Friday afternoon. The investigation looks into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, but despite calls for transparency from politicians, Americans, and emboldened mothers on social media, the report hasn’t been released to the public yet.

Another report has been making the rounds, even if it’s not the one Mueller delivered to William Barr.

Donald Trump is reportedly terrified of self-driving cars

TwitterFacebook

If there’s one thing Donald Trump is good at it’s stoking the fear of the unknown.

And he’s now extended that to being scared of driverless cars, according to a story from Axios. Jonathan Swan and Joann Muller walk us through several things Trump has apparently said about self-driving cars — and none of them are good.

Among the examples:

  • “Can you imagine, you’re sitting in the back seat and all of a sudden this car is zig-zagging around the corner and you can’t stop the f—-ing thing?”

  • Self-driving cars “will never work.”

  • “I would never get in a self-driving car. … I don’t trust some computer to drive me around.” Read more…

7 things to know about potential presidential candidate and confirmed Hufflepuff Pete Buttigieg

TwitterFacebook

With 14 potential candidates and no clear frontrunner, there’s already a lot to keep track of in the 2020 democratic primaries — but there’s also a lot of opportunity. One potential new entrant to the race could make things even more interesting.

Pete Buttigieg has been the mayor of South Bend, Indiana since 2012. Despite his low profile compared to the rock star members of congress and outspoken CEOs running for president, Buttigieg has gained fresh attention in recent days.

During a compelling interview with CNN at its South by Southwest Town Hall, he had a viral moment that boosted his profile when he trounced the self-described religious conservative Vice President Mike Pence for being “the cheerleader of the porn star presidency.” Buttigieg had to work closely with Pence when Pence served as Governor of Indiana from 2013-2017. Moms have the power to transform child care in America. This is what stands in their way.

TwitterFacebook

A new mom never knows when she’ll feel utterly alone and desperate. Maybe it’ll be when she’s laid out her pumping equipment in a closet-sized room at work only to realize she’s forgotten the power cord. Or when her bus stalls on its way home, and she knows her infant son will need to go directly to sleep after she picks him up late from daycare. Or when she’s finally crawled into bed and it’s at that precise moment her baby wakes up screaming.

Sometimes parenthood is downright grueling. But the frustration inherent in moments like these is compounded by the reality that American politics has made a sport of using families, particularly mothers, as heartwarming props but abandons them when it comes to policy.  Read more…
