LGBTQ gamers are rejoicing about the pride flags in ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’

TwitterFacebook

Your LGBTQ-friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has just landed some major points with the queer community.

In the recently released video game Marvel’s Spider-Man, the player gets to swing Peter Parker around modern-day New York City using his super sticky web. It’s during these free roaming sessions where the player might encounter an LGBTQ easter egg in the form of a pride flag.

Fans of the game have taken screenshots and have reacted positively to the rainbow flags and murals scattered throughout game’s open world.

‘Dancing Hermione’ casually stupefies everyone at Pride

TwitterFacebook

The brightest (and fiercest) witch of her age is back.

Performer Kelsey Ellison reprised her viral “dancing Hermione” outfit for a magic moment during Saturday’s Pride event in London.

The YouTube personality and self-proclaimed Harry Potter enthusiast gained fame when she appeared at MCM London’s ComicCon, stupefying all with a casually fierce dance while dressed up as Hermione Granger.

On Saturday, she brought the magic to Pride in London, voguing her way through her celebrated routine, backpack and all, and finishing with a casual split — all in a casually steamy summer temperature of 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Read more…

The best places to find queer joy on Instagram

TwitterFacebook

This post is part of Me, online, Mashable’s ongoing series digging into online identities.

If you were a queer kid growing up in the early ’10s, Tumblr, not school, was where you found community.

Tumblr was home to some of the internet’s gayest Disney Princess memes. It was where you went for the best transmasc fashion, queer Harry Potter fan fiction, lesbian spells, and sometimes even a little bit of love. Queer teens disproportionately used the platform, studies found.

But Tumblr’s financials are bleak, and its role in queer culture has quietly diminished. Instead, it’s Instagram — an equally visual medium somewhat sheltered from Reddit’s trolls, Twitter’s bots, and Facebook’s morons — to which queer culture has moved.  Read more…

13 songs that should be your next Pride anthem

TwitterFacebook

It’s Pride month and that can only mean one thing: TIME TO FIGURE OUT OUR NEXT PRIDE ANTHEM!

With so many bops being released on the daily (and with Carly Rae Jepsen blessing us with her entire discography), your Pride playlist may already be full of jams that you want to listen to all month long.

But, for the sake of causing some drama™, here are 13 songs (in no particular order) that should be your next Pride anthem.

1. “Bloom” by Troye Sivan

Troooooyyyeeeee! Thank you for this bop, sis! Australian singer Troye Sivan destroyed our emotions with his collection of moody synth-filled jams in his first album Blue Neighbourhood. But if his new single “Bloom” is any indication, with his second album, Sivan is coming directly for our wigs. Read more…

CrossFit executive on unpaid leave after calling LGBTQ pride a ‘sin’

TwitterFacebook

A CrossFit executive was placed on unpaid leave Wednesday after calling LGBTQ pride a “sin.”

In now-deleted tweets, CrossFit’s Chief Knowledge Officer Russell Berger congratulated CrossFit Infiltrate, a CrossFit gym in Indianapolis, for canceling their Pride-themed workout. Pride events, including parades and community gatherings, are hosted across the country in June.

In an email to its members, the gym’s owners said they shut down the event because they “value health and wellness, and they believe that this event does not.” According to Fox 59, a follow-up email from the gym to a member asking for clarification said: Read more…
