Amazon sold more than 100 million products on Prime Day 2018

TwitterFacebook

It’s no secret that Prime Day 2018 got off to a rocky start. For the first hour, many users were stuck on a 404 error page featuring the dogs of Amazon.

However, none of this got in the way of breaking sales records. This year, Amazon’s 36-hour event beat out the previous Prime Days, Cyber Monday, and Black Friday in terms of total sales. According to the online retail giant, customers purchased over 100 million products during Prime Day this year.

As the name suggests, the sales from this event were only available to Prime Members, and Amazon had more signups for the membership service than on any other day in history. For 2018, Prime Day was available in 17 countries with Australia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Singapore taking part for the first time. Read more…

Amazon workers on strike as Prime Day kicks off

TwitterFacebook

This Monday is Amazon Prime Day, and like every other year, that means you’ll have the chance to get a great deal on some dongles. But this year, unlike every other year, Prime Day means you’ll also have the chance to stand in solidarity with workers protesting working conditions at Amazon fulfillment centers.

On Monday, while you were shopping for Echoes, 1,800 Amazon workers went on strike in Spain, and “thousands” more are set to strike on Tuesday in Germany, according to the Washington Post

“We in Madrid believe that only if we struggle together will we gain recognition for our demands,” read a statement from Amazon en Lucha — the group calling for the strike — ahead of the planned protest. “Similarly, only with a joint action at a European level will workers organize in those places where there is no union representation yet.” Read more…

Amazon has a pre-Prime Day deal on a Philips Hue Smart Lighting Starter Kit (including two bulbs and an Echo Dot) for $70

TwitterFacebook

Amazon is so thoughtful, guys. They know that Prime Day is going to be a total chaos, so they’ve been dropping deals early for the past week in order to give Prime members less of a panic attack on July 16 and 17.

Today, the countdown to Prime Day continues: Amazon is offering a Philips Hue Smart Lighting Starter Kit (complete with two smart light bulbs, a central hub, and an Echo Dot) all for $69.99.

This bundle is the definition of a steal — $69.99 is usually the price of the starter kit without the Echo Dot. If these things were all purchased separately, you’d be paying nearly $120. So in other words, you’re crazy to not take advantage of a price as low as $70. That’s nearly 50% off, you guys. Read more…
