Transit officials checked out Elon Musk’s tunnel and tried very hard not to mock it

TwitterFacebook

Virginia transit officials don’t seem very impressed with Elon Musk’s tunnel and they had a very hard time trying to hide it.

The state’s public transit subcommittee is in talks to invest billions of dollars to upgrade its transportation systems. However, the board was worried that rail infrastructure projects would soon be rendered obsolete by technology like Elon Musk’s much-hyped tunnel. So, earlier this year Elon Musk’s Boring Company provided a tour of its tunnel in Southern California to Virginia transit officials.

This week, the transit professionals who experienced Musk’s tunnel shared their opinions to the subcommittee. Read more…

Lyft wants you to ditch your car for its promotional experiment

TwitterFacebook

For car owners, spending 31 days without using your car is quite a challenge. But Lyft wants to prove otherwise with its latest promo, #DitchWithLyft.

Lyft thinks you can live without driving your own vehicle if you car share, take public transit, ride bike-shares, and of course, use Lyft. So it’s offering the first 100 people who sign up and promise to stash away their car for the month of August $550 in transit credits.

That breaks down to:

  • $300 in Lyft shared ride credit

  • $45 in Divvy Bike credit

  • $100 in Zipcar credit

  • $105 in ‘L’ and bus monthly pass

Lyft’s own roots were as a carpool platform, Zimride, which partners with Zipcar, and it recently acquired bike-share platform Motivate, which runs the Divvy bike program in Chicago. So these aren’t unexpected partnerships for this promotional event. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Seth Rogen is now the official voice of Vancouver’s TransLink’s buses and SkyTrains, because why not?

The Vancouver native offered to voice announcements for the city’s transportation system after TransLink cut ties with Morgan Freeman — who was originally slated to do the announcements — after he was accused of sexually inappropriate behavior in May.

Freeman’s spot was initially a promotion collaboration with Visa, however, the Vancouver Sun notes that Rogen offered to do the announcements for free.

“Mr. Rogen offered to work with TransLink free of charge and we accepted his offer in the pursuit of providing a better customer experience and to share pride in the region,” said TransLink spokesman Steve Vanagas. Read more…
