’13 Reasons Why’ creator addresses Season 2 rape scene

TwitterFacebook

The following contains spoilers for 13 Reasons Why Season 2.

Those who binged 13 Reasons Why have many reactions to the controversial show’s second season, particularly to one scene in the finale. Series creator Brian Yorkey defends the scene where Tyler (Devin Druid) returns to school after a hiatus, only to be immediately singled out by his bullies and brutally raped in a bathroom stall.

“As intense as that scene is, and as strong as are [sic] or reactions to it may be, it doesn’t even come close to the pain experienced by the people who actually go through these things,” Yorkey told Vulture. “When we talk about something being ‘disgusting’ or hard to watch, often that means we are attaching shame to the experience.”  Read more…

Asia Argento: ‘I was raped by Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes’

TwitterFacebook

Asia Argento closed out her 2018 Cannes Film Festival experience with a powerful speech about Harvey Weinstein.

On Saturday, while on-stage presenting with director Ava DuVernay at the festival’s closing ceremony, Argento spoke of her past Cannes experiences, telling the audience that Weinstein — who’s been hit with accusations of sexual harassment and assault from more than a dozen women, including Argento — had previously raped her there.

“In 1997, I was raped by Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes,” Argento bravely said into the microphone. “I was 21 years old. This festival was his hunting ground. I want to make a prediction: Harvey Weinstein will never be welcomed here ever again. He will live in disgrace, shunned by a film community that once embraced him and covered up for his crimes.” Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Roman Polanksi’s rape survivor responded to the recently resurfaced Howard Stern interview in which Quentin Tarantino defended the actions of the disgraced French-Polish film director.

In the interview, Tarantino characterized the survivor as a “13-year-old party girl” who “was down with to party with Roman.” In reality, she was drugged and raped by the then 43-year-old Polanksi. Tarantino even went as far as to claim that, “She’s talked about it since, about, ‘No, he didn’t really do anything to me, it was a technicality from being 13.'”

But the now 54-year-old Samantha Geimer doesn’t need Tarantino to put words in her mouth and is perfectly capable of speaking for herself. Read more…
