White House tweet tributes to Martin Luther King Jr. aren’t going over well

Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ tweet honoring Martin Luther King Jr. is not going over well.

In a tweet, the White House press secretary wrote that King “gave his life” for the civil rights movement, and that “our country is better thanks to his inspiration and sacrifice.”

Today we honor a great American who gave his life to right the wrong of racial inequality. Our country is better thanks to his inspiration and sacrifice #MLKDay pic.twitter.com/wWYdNWtGuy

Here’s the thing: King didn’t give his life. He was assassinated four years after he was blackmailed by the FBI; his family still believes his death was a government-orchestrated conspiracy to silence the civil rights movement.  Read more…

CNN reporter walks out of press briefing after heated exchange with Sarah Huckabee Sanders

TwitterFacebook

The Trump administration hasn’t been on the best of terms with the media lately, to put it lightly.

On Thursday, CNN’s Jim Acosta walked out of a White House press briefing after Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to confirm that the press corps is not the “enemy of the people,” as Trump has repeatedly called them in the past.

“…You read off a laundry list of your concerns about the press and things you feel like are misreported,” Acosta told Sanders. “You did not say that you feel like the press is not the enemy of the people. I think it would be a good thing if you were to say, right here, at the briefing, that the press … are not the enemy of the people.” Read more…

Sarah Huckabee Sanders tries and fails to explain Trump’s odd comment on groceries

TwitterFacebook

Has Donald Trump ever even been to a grocery store? We may never know.

At a White House press briefing on Tuesday afternoon, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked about Trump’s now-infamous line from his Tampa rally in which he said, “The time has come for voter ID, like everything else. You know if you go out an buy groceries, you need a picture or a card — you need ID.”

When pressed about the last time Trump was actually in a grocery store, Sanders said, “I’m not sure why that matters,” before she stumbled through an explanation about how you have to show ID at a grocery store if you’re buying beer and wine. Which could maybe sort of explain it — except the president doesn’t drink.  Read more…

Trevor Noah rips the White House response to Dinnergate

As the internet exploded over the weekend, moving from children in cages to Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ inability to get a meal in Lexington, Virginia, you just knew that Trevor Noah and The Daily Show crew would have some fun with it. And they didn’t disappoint.

From the opening joke about Sanders’ tendency to blatantly lie to the press, to a crack about cheese boards — “cheese is not Republican or Democrat” — Noah is in top form.

There are also jokes about Trump’s bone spurs, administration staffers’ inability to get laid, and Stephen Miller reimagined as a Slytherin professor, proving that if you’re smart enough, there is a way to squeeze laughs out of this daily cycle through the many layers of Hell.   Read more…
